B.B. King To Receive Presidential Medal Of Freedom

B.B. King will be honored at the White House on December 15, 2006 when he will be awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
While we all love BB , we are not quite sure what he has done for the cause of freedom in these times. While his music has been and continues to be an inspiration for both whites and blacks, and surely has inspired the respect of many of all races, as well as inspired many to believe they too can succeed and matter, our quibble is with the timing.

In these times when our rights are being taken away day by day it seems to me that this award is a gesture to irrelevancy. Yes we can take away your rights, yes we can imprison and incarerate without restriction, we can torture, in Iraq, Guantanamo and secret bases around the world. We can kill and maim thousands of our own, and hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians in Iraq, Afghanistan and Lebanon, but man that BB can play a mean guitar.Even better you can listen and you don't even have to know how to read or vote.

Your comment is uninformed.

In 1963, President Kennedy broadened the Medal of Freedom's scope to its present standard: for "especially meritorious contributions to the security or national interest of the United States, World Peace or cultural or other significant public or private endeavors"--and announced the first 31 recipients on July 4, 1963.

Don't be a hater.
