Fortress America

Dear Mr. President:

We, at YouThinkWhatdotCom, think your plan to place 6,000 National Guardsmen along the border is a very bad idea. We think this is another stupid proposal in the continuing "Illusion of Security". (There are other illusions besides this one being demonstrated by the BushCo administration. We will discuss those in a future post.)

This is the essence of the Chief Executive's proposed plan, in his own words:

"Tonight I am calling on Congress to provide funding for dramatic improvements in manpower and technology at the border. By the end of 2008, we will increase the number of Border Patrol officers by an additional 6,000. When these new agents are deployed, we will have more than doubled the size of the Border Patrol during my presidency.
At the same time, we are launching the most technologically advanced border security initiative in American history. We will construct high-tech fences in urban corridors, and build new patrol roads and barriers in rural areas. We will employ motion sensors infrared cameras and unmanned aerial vehicles to prevent illegal crossings. America has the best technology in the world and we will ensure that the Border Patrol has the technology they need to do their job and secure our border."
"One way to help during this transition is to use the National Guard. So in coordination with governors, up to 6,000 Guard members will be deployed to our southern border. The Border Patrol will remain in the lead. The Guard will assist the Border Patrol by operating surveillance systems analyzing intelligence installing fences and vehicle barriers building patrol roads and providing training. Guard units will not be involved in direct law enforcement activities that duty will be done by the Border Patrol. This initial commitment of Guard members would last for a period of one year. After that, the number of Guard forces will be reduced as new Border Patrol agents and new technologies come online. It is important for Americans to know that we have enough Guard forces to win the war on terror, respond to natural disasters, and help secure our border.
The United States is not going to militarize the southern border. Mexico is our neighbor, and our friend. We will continue to work cooperatively to improve security on both sides of the border, to confront common problems like drug trafficking and crime, and to reduce illegal immigration."

We believe the southern border is already secured with the use of military helicopters, video cameras, border guards and the like.

We suggest an alternative. Simply build a wall around the entire perimeter of the nation. Build a wall of protection along the eastern and western coasts, as well as along the borders north and south. This way no one can get in...or out. Think Great Wall of China.

We even have the perfect name for such a major construction project,"The Great Wall of National Unity".(Mispronounced by the president as the Great Wall of Futility, he meant to say utility but you know he gets confused.)

Personnel to build this structure would come from the millions of illegals and unemployed citizens among us. Our economy would respond positively.

We also suggest invading Mexico and Canada for the purpose of taking over their oil reserves. (Through the North American Fair Trade Agreement our nation already has the right to take over natural resources from Canada, water, oil, timber etc, if deemed necessary.) In fact the United States should launch an invasion that goes from Mexico as far south in the western hemisphere to Venezuela to control oil reserves. This way the United States will have its fuel and energy consumption issues resolved for years to come.

After all, both post World War II Germany, and Berlin had walls. Remember how successful those structures were for providing protection of the citizens in Germany? Walls are beneficial for furthering co-operation among nations.

Let’s not forget Israel has parsed Palestine with walls until it represents a maze or a honey comb.

Bring our troops home now! Why invade uncooperative nations halfway around the world when we can invade uncooperative nations right next door? And unlike those countries on the other side of the world the invasions of our neighbors to the south and the north will be easy to support. The tanks can start in Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, California, Washington state and New York and just keep on going.

Why settle for dominating one little part of North America when we can control and take over the whole continent? In fact why not take over both continents? It will be a lot easier than fighting with Iran and Iraq, and the soldiers can come home every weekend for R&R.
