Yolanda King Dead Age 51;Oldest Daughter of MLK, Jr and Coretta Scott King

Yolanda King pursued her father’s dream of racial harmony through drama and motivational speaking. She was an actress, a producer and she appeared in numerous films, including "Ghosts of Mississippi." She was cast in the role of Rosa Parks in the 1978 television miniseries "King."

Born Nov. 17, 1955 in Montgomery, Alabama, just two weeks before Rosa Parks made her historic decision not to give up her seat which was the action that started the Montgomery Bus Boycott led by her late father the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Yolanda King was 10 weeks old when the family home was bombed while her father attended a boycott rally. Neither she nor her mother was injured when the device exploded on the front porch.

At age 7 she was mentioned, along with her brothers and younger sister, in her father's sppech given at the March on Washington in 1963
"I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their
character."
She was just 12 years old when her father was cut down by an assassin's bullet in Memphis, Tennessee.

Her mother, Coretta Scott King died in January of 2006.

She is survived by brother Martin III, born in 1957; brother Dexter born in 1961; and sister Bernice born in 1963.

Yolanda King, truly a child of the Civil Rights Movement; a successful actress, producer, motivational speaker, activist and advocate for peace, personal growth and social change will long be remembered.
