Earlier this month, Greg Smith, in his role as New York Times Op-Ed contributor, very publicly announced to the world, and his employer, Goldman Sachs,  he is leaving and his reasons why. We took to the article, authored by a financial insider, as confirmation of what we knew to be true and published in 2010.

In his op-ed piece he described Goldman as “an environment as toxic and destructive as I have ever seen it. ” Smith gave credence to what we said in April 2010, that the chief executives “... make a decision based on what is best for the corporation, rather than what is best for the client, their errors bring down national economies; and the Goldman Sachs executives rake in the cash.” In his very public resignation Smith confirmed what we knew to be true all along.

“To put the problem in the simplest terms, the interests of the client continue to be sidelined in the way the firm operates and thinks about making money. Goldman Sachs is one of the world’s largest and most important investment banks and it is too integral to global finance to continue to act this way. The firm has veered so far from the place I joined right out of college that I can no longer in good conscience say that I identify with what it stands for. ” ~ Greg Smith, former Goldman Sachs employee.

With the breaking news of Greg Smith transitioning from investment banker to op-ed writer to full time writer we say, “Mazal tov !”
We wish Smith success as he seeks a publisher for what we’re hearing is a story about a young idealist who came into the business with good intentions, integrity, and sky-high ideals, only to ultimately have them dashed by Goldman Sachs’ persistent focused ideas on making money.  As Lloyd Blankfein. chief of Goldman Sach’s so infamously stated he’s just a banker “doing God’s work.”

Fortunately, despite his expressed disillusionment, Smith has left with his principles in tact.
We commend Greg Smith for his courage in speaking truth to power. We look forward to the book.

We agree with Taibbi’s assessment as presented with facts found in the public record.  Bank Of America is a professed criminal operation. It has  admitted being innovator of,  initiator of, and participant in, fraudulent banking acts for years.

We believe more consumers as well as investors should be outraged by this incident of unprecedented, in your face, banking malfeasance. We believe those responsible must be made accountable; not necessarily by doing jail time–but through deprivation of the benefits of our modern society; ship them off to Africa; perhaps to some other continent or third world island nation with indescribable poverty …Haiti sounds an ideal just reward.  Send them without any money or support systems to a place where they are forced to get by without their connections and manipulations of laws and government officials.

Perhaps this seems too extreme. Consider the damage these individuals, with a controlling interest in these companies, have caused. The harm far exceeds the injury, pain and suffering caused by a mass murderer of 50 or even a hundred people.

Tens of millions of people’s homes are in jeopardy.  Hundreds of millions Americans have had their livelihood negatively affected; many have lost their house, their job, their livelihood, their family, and sometimes even their life. The lives of the children have been irreparably disrupted. And injury, pain and suffering to America and its citizens is not even the end of it. The whole entire world,  markets and families in Europe, Asia, Africa, South and Central America, is suffering all because of these marauders. Their predatory actions are despicable and dishonorable .

The only injustice, of banishing the individuals responsible to a third world country, is the damage to the third world country. They’d be  forced to accept them, but what is that compared to being bombed or invaded. We’re pretty sure any country would prefer to accept our banksters to live in the worst of their conditions to being bombed or invaded. It’s a small price a small price to pay really given the alternative–we will either steal your oil, (or other precious natural resource), or you will accept Timothy Geitner, whatever.

Just as in that popular board game, those executives “Do not pass GO!”, “Do not collect $200!”; no clean slate unless the consumers and investors who’ve been damaged are given a clean slate, too. It’s not a new idea…it’s been done in the history of the world many, many hundreds of times in order to begin anew.

When it comes to setting the really low, low low, rock-bottom, sleazy standard for corrupt business practices Bank Of America has the dubious distinction of being a leader in its field.  The other really big U.S. banks such as Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, JPMorgan Chase, Citigroup, and Wells Fargo, are “monkey see, monkey do entities”. Or another way to describe the bankster enterprise in the 21st Century is, “as goes Bank Of The UNIVERSE, so goes the other financial crooks”.

Photojournalist Sarah Glover decided to take the buyout rather than being laid off. Glover is president of the Philadelphia Association of Black Journalists. In a note to Facebook friends she stated her concern that “by the end of the staff reduction process at PMN this week that the newsrooms will take another step back to looking like 1962 rather than more like what a newsroom should look like in 2012.”

Glover further states:

” Ironically, in 1962, Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Acel Moore was the first black hired by The Philadelphia Inquirer. Progress over the decades was all but washed away with the layoffs of 2007, when 30 blacks and Asians were laid off disproportionately out of a total of the 71 laid off. Who would of thought a simple catch phrase by the former Knight Ridder company would still resonate and hold true today… “Diversity. No Excuses.” Prior to this week’s staff reductions, there were already too few ethnic minorities at the papers and website. It’s embarrassing, particularly in a city that is majority minority. U.S. census data says 62 percent of the city’s 1.5 million residents are ethnic minorities. All news organizations should have staffs that represent the communities they serve. It is quite frankly a no-brainer, and a good business decision. I’m glad to see representation among women to be good, but ethnic minority representation is abysmal.”

 ”I was the sole woman of color on the photo staffs of the Inquirer/Daily News. I’m the first black woman to work as a photographer at the Daily News (2008 to present), and the second black woman to have been hired by the Inquirer (1999-2008). In the Philadelphia market, I believe I’m the only black woman working as a full-time photojournalist at a news organization.”

We present Part 2 of “What Sandra Fluke REALLY Said To The Democrats”, based on a report from Charlie Spiering of the Washington Examiner.com. This is the text of Sandra Fluke’s opening statement, given February 23, 2012, when she testified before a House Democratic panel in support of the HHS contraception mandate.

A friend of mine, for example, has polycystic ovarian syndrome, and she has to take prescription birth control to stop cysts from growing on her ovaries. Her prescription is technically covered by Georgetown’s insurance because it’s not intended to prevent pregnancy.

Unfortunately, under many religious institutions and insurance plans, it wouldn’t be. There would be no exception for other medical needs. And under Sen. Blunt’s amendment, Sen. Rubio’s bill or Rep. Fortenberry’s bill there’s no requirement that such an exception be made for these medical needs.

When this exception does exist, these exceptions don’t accomplish their well-intended goals because when you let university administrators or other employers rather than women and their doctors dictate whose medical needs are legitimate and whose are not, women’s health takes a back seat to a bureaucracy focused on policing her body.

In 65% of the cases at our school, our female students were interrogated by insurance representatives and university medical staff about why they needed prescription and whether they were lying about their symptoms.

For my friend and 20% of the women in her situation, she never got the insurance company to cover her prescription. Despite verifications of her illness from her doctor, her claim was denied repeatedly on the assumption that she really wanted birth control to prevent pregnancy. She’s gay. So clearly polycystic ovarian syndrome was a much more urgent concern than accidental pregnancy for her.
<blockquote>One woman told us doctors believe she has endometriosis, but that can’t be proven without surgery. So the insurance has not been willing to cover her medication – the contraception she needs to treat her endometriosis.

Recently, another woman told me that she also has polycystic ovarian syndrome and she’s struggling to pay for her medication and is terrified to not have access to it.

Due to the barriers erected by Georgetown’s policy, she hasn’t been reimbursed for her medications since last August.

I sincerely pray that we don’t have to wait until she loses an ovary or is diagnosed with cancer before her needs and the needs of all of these women are taken seriously.

Because this is the message that not requiring coverage of contraception sends: A woman’s reproductive health care isn’t a necessity, isn’t a priority.

One woman told us that she knew birth control wasn’t covered on the insurance and she assumed that that’s how Georgetown’s insurance handle all of women’s reproductive and sexual health care. So when she was raped, she didn’t go to the doctor, even to be examined or tested for sexually transmitted infections, because she thought insurance wasn’t going to cover something like that – something that was related to a woman’s reproductive health.

As one other student put it: ‘This policy communicates to female students that our school doesn’t understand our needs.’

These are not feelings that male fellow student experience and they’re not burdens that male students must shoulder.

In the media lately, some conservative Catholic organizations have been asking what did we expect when we enroll in a Catholic school?

We can only answer that we expected women to be treated equally, to not have our school create untenable burdens that impede our academic success.

We expected that our schools would live up to the Jesuit creed of ‘cura personalis‘ – to care for the whole person – by meeting all of our medical needs.

We expected that when we told our universities of the problem this policy created for us as students, they would help us.

We expected that when 94% of students oppose the policy the university would respect our choices regarding insurance students pay for – completely unsubsidized by the university.

We did not expect that women would be told in the national media that we should have gone to school elsewhere.

And even if that meant going to a less prestigious university, we refuse to pick between a quality education and our health. And we resent that in the 21st century, anyone think it’s acceptable to ask us to make this choice simply because we are women.

Many of the women whose stories I’ve shared today are Catholic women. So ours is not a war against the church. It is a struggle for the access to the health care we need.

The President of the Association of Jesuit Colleges has shared that Jesuit colleges and the universities appreciate the modifications to the rule announced recently. Religious concerns are addressed and women get the health care they need. And I sincerely hope that that is something we can all agree upon.

My name is Sandra Fluke, and I’m a third-year student at Georgetown Law School. I’m also a past-president of Georgetown Law Students for Reproductive Justice or LSRJ. And I’d like to acknowledge my fellow LSRJ members and allies and all of the student activists with us and thank them so much for being here today.

(Applause)

We, as Georgetown LSRJ, are here today because we’re so grateful that this regulation implements the non-partisan medical advice of the Institute of Medicine.

I attend a Jesuit law school that does not provide contraceptive coverage in its student health plan. And just as we students have faced financial, emotional, and medical burdens as a result, employees at religiously-affiliated hospitals and institutions and universities across the country have suffered similar burdens.

We are all grateful for the new regulation that will meet the critical health care needs of so many women.

Simultaneously, the recently announced adjustment addresses any potential conflict with the religious identity of Catholic or Jesuit institutions.

When I look around my campus, I see the faces of the women affected by this lack of contraceptive coverage.

And especially in the last week, I have heard more and more of their stories. On a daily basis, I hear yet from another woman from Georgetown or from another school or who works for a religiously-affiliated employer, and they tell me that they have suffered financially and emotionally and medically because of this lack of coverage.

And so, I’m here today to share their voices, and I want to thank you for allowing them – not me – to be heard.

Without insurance coverage, contraception, as you know, can cost a woman over $3,000 during law school. For a lot of students who, like me, are on public interest scholarships, that’s practically an entire summer’s salary. 40% of the female students at Georgetown Law reported to us that they struggle financially as a result of this policy.

One told us about how embarrassed and just powerless she felt when she was standing at the pharmacy counter and learned for the first time that contraception was not covered on her insurance and she had to turn and walk away because she couldn’t afford that prescription. Women like her have no choice but to go without contraception.

Just last week, a married female student told me that she had to stop using contraception because she and her husband just couldn’t fit it into their budget anymore. Women employed in low-wage jobs without contraceptive coverage face the same choice.

And some might respond that contraception is accessible in lots of other ways. Unfortunately, that’s just not true.

Women’s health clinic provide a vital medical service, but as the Guttmacher Institute has definitely documented, these clinics are unable to meet the crushing demand for these services. Clinics are closing, and women are being forced to go without the medical care they need.

How can Congress consider the [Rep. Jeff] Fortenberry (R-Neb.), [Sen. Marco] Rubio (R-Fla.) and [Sen. Roy] Blunt (R-Mo.) legislation to allow even more employers and institutions to refuse contraception coverage and then respond that the non-profit clinics should step up to take care of the resulting medical crisis, particularly when so many legislators are attempting to de-fund those very same clinics?

These denial of contraceptive coverage impact real people.

In the worst cases, women who need these medications for other medical conditions suffer very dire consequences.

After months paying over $100 out-of-pocket, she just couldn’t afford her medication anymore, and she had to stop taking it.

I learned about all of this when I walked out of a test and got a message from her that in the middle of the night in her final exam period she’d been in the emergency room. She’d been there all night in just terrible, excruciating pain. She wrote to me, ‘It was so painful I’d woke up thinking I’ve been shot.’

Without her taking the birth control, a massive cyst the size of a tennis ball had grown on her ovary. She had to have surgery to remove her entire ovary as a result.

On the morning I was originally scheduled to give this testimony, she was sitting in a doctor’s office, trying to cope with the consequences of this medical catastrophe.

Since last year’s surgery, she’s been experiencing night sweats and weight gain and other symptoms of early menopause as a result of the removal of her ovary. She’s 32-years-old.

As she put it, ‘If my body indeed does enter early menopause, no fertility specialist in the world will be able to help me have my own children. I will have no choice at giving my mother her desperately desired grandbabies simply because the insurance policy that I paid for, totally unsubsidized by my school, wouldn’t cover my prescription for birth control when I needed it.’

Now, in addition to potentially facing the health complications that come with having menopause at such an early age – increased risk of cancer, heart disease, osteoporosis – she may never be able to conceive a child.

Some may say that my friend’s tragic story is rare. It’s not. I wish it were.      (Continued Next Post)

Rush Limbaugh, a blowhard who has been going too far, for far too long, has now made it abundantly clear that he hates women. America’s highest rated and highest paid radio broadcaster is a dangerous misogynist.

The venom he spewed at Georgetown University law student Sandra Fluke, a private citizen, is unprecedented. An overweight, overpaid, hateful “little” man, who always plays the “big” man, has victimized her. This young woman simply had the temerity to testify in support of a woman’s right to health insurance coverage for contraception.

For this Limbaugh calls her a “slut,” a “prostitute” who, he says, wants to be paid for having sex. He even suggested that if she wants money for her sexual activity, he should at least be able to see it taking place. How humiliating, how embarrassing.

I became a victim of his nasty talk on the radio, after I moderated the 1992 presidential debate featuring President George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton and Ross Perot. The day after the huge political event—watched by 91 million people here and abroad—Limbaugh called me a “femi-Nazi” who caused Bush to stumble so Clinton could outperform the President and win the debate. (That was a lie.) He said I was a liberal Democrat and never should have been chosen as moderator. (Another lie.) He ranted for 15 minutes about how awful I was. The innuendo, that I was an unqualified and biased black woman.

Within hours of that radio show I started getting death threats by telephone and over the next few days hundreds of letters flooded my office from people who warned me I would be killed, wished I was dead, or planning to shoot me themselves. For about a week armed bodyguards followed me everywhere to provide protection from any Limbaugh “ditto-heads” with guns and a violent streak.

Does he talk about women the way he does for ratings? He surely couldn’t believe all his nonsense talk. Or is he an evil man who wants to yank out from under our Easy Spirits, all the progress we have made. To men like Limbaugh, the advances of women are threatening. That’s why they are “little” men. They can’t stand the fact that females can–not only do what men do–but can have babies, too. And with contraception we hold the ultimate power over society’s growth or decline. Maybe that’s why Neanderthals like Rush, want to force women to bear babies no matter what the circumstances.

Women will not go back. We may be on the cusp of the third women’s rights struggle in US history—suffrage in the early 1900’s, equal rights in the 70’s and now, the new assault on reproductive rights, being given boisterous voice by Limbaugh. Bring it on.

Four wives? Rush can’t seem to get it right. Sounds like he has a woman problem. I met him and one of his wives at the ABC Washington Bureau in the early 90’s. She was a tiny, curvaceous aerobics instructor. Gee, I wonder who left whom?

It frequently happens. A business owner purchases an insurance policy to protect the business. You pay your premiums in a timely manner, year after year. Then one day, your business is at the wrong end of a lawsuit. You quickly submit the claim to your insurance carrier and expecting they’ll cover it. They’ll hire a lawyer at their cost (after you pay any deductible), and the lawyer will defend your company. After all, that’s why you’ve been paying all those premiums, to get that coverage. However, a few weeks later,  you receive a letter s in the mail. Your carrier is rejecting the claim and now you’re the one who must foot the bill to pay for, defend and fight the lawsuit. This is what you should do to effectively fight back.

1. Assess the battleground

Review your  insurance company’s claim rejection letter; review as it compares to your insurance policy. Your policy is your insurance carrier’s contract with you; your carrier must adhere to the terms of the contract. The letter will detail your carrier’s grounds for denying coverage. The letter will typically will refer to specific policy language. When you crosscheck the letter against the policy, don’t just look at the policy provisions your carrier references. Read the entire policy; see how its terms are defined and get an understanding of the scope of coverage — which acts and damages the policy covers, and which it does not.

In Pennsylvania, unless it is absolutely clear that your carrier does not have to provide your enterprise with coverage, your carrier generally has to provide coverage. Courts interpret contracts against their drafters. In the case of insurance policies, the drafters are virtually always the insurance carriers. When courts interpret a policy against the carrier, they interpret ambiguous terms — provisions that can  mean more than one thing — in favor of providing the insured, your business, with coverage. So if the policy could be construed to call for your carrier to defend the lawsuit, your policy will be construed to require your carrier to do so. In short, courts will read the policy in the way most likely to provide your business with coverage.

The carrier will attempt to confuse you claiming  the policy does not demand it to indemnify a claim. We are talking about whether the policy requires the defense of a claim, whether the policy calls for the carrier to hire a lawyer to defend your company. Whether your carrier has to pay a judgment that could be entered against your business (indemnification) is a separate question.

2. Fight back

If you conclude that indeed, your policy could reasonably be construed to require your company’s defense, write your carrier back. Set out why the policy requires your carrier to defend the lawsuit, quoting specific policy provisions which call for coverage.

It can be an act of “bad faith” for a carrier to refuse to defend a claim covered by a policy, and if your business wins a bad faith claim against a carrier, the carrier may have to pay your company not only compensatory damages, but punitive damages. Compensatory damages are the monies your business actually incurs from the having to defend the claim (the legal fees and costs of the suit). Punitive damages may be also imposed to punish a carrier so in the future, it will be more likely to defend such a claim rather than forcing its insured to defend it and have to sue to get reimbursed. If you truly believe your carrier’s refusal to defend your company is being made in bad faith, tell them so in the letter but be prepared to back that up with a claim against your carrier should it refuse to budge.

3. Keep your eye on the clock

Whatever you do, do not let the time your company has to file a response to the lawsuit run out. In Pennsylvania courts, you may be able to file either an Answer to the Complaint or a pleading to have the Complaint stricken. Call the opposing party’s attorney. Do not mention anything about the merit (or lack of merit) of the lawsuit, but say you are trying to get your insurance carrier to hire a lawyer for you.  Ask for a reasonable extension of time to Answer the Complaint or otherwise plead. If the lawyer grants the extension, confirm it in writing. This way, you will retain the ability to have the Complaint stricken while you try to get your carrier to hire a lawyer to represent your company. In the meantime, don’t procrastinate. Seek legal assistance. Find a lawyer to represent your business in the lawsuit — preferably, one who will also help you force your carrier to comply with the  contract to provide coverage for your business.

Your employees are probably the most important aspect of your business, so it’s vital that you plan your interior space to suit their needs. Think about the sort of amenities you want to have available for them, such as a small kitchen or a relaxation area. Things such as this can be great for job satisfaction. Also consider how they are going to be positioned in the office as this will massively impact on your interior design as well as the welfare of your staff.

The public spaces of your office are just as important as the private, so consider the image you would like to present to visitors to your premises. Most of what they see of your office will be the meeting rooms and reception area, so make these feel welcoming, light and airy to give a good first impression. Also make sure you sufficiently cater for the number of visitors you expect to deal with. For example, you may find that one client meeting room is not enough for your needs.

You should also think about whether you want all your furniture to be the same or if you would prefer to have different styles of furniture in some areas of your office such as the reception area or meeting rooms.

The color scheme of your office is another vital thing to consider as you need to make sure the color you choose won’t be distracting for your employees. Popular colors for office décor include green, yellow and blue. Also, more serious firms such as solicitors often like to go for more muted colors whereas creative firms often like to represent their style of business with bold colors, so your choice might depend on what you do. Lighter shades with flashes of bold color tend to work well, though.

You could also consider having a special guest on hand at your exhibition stand to give your display some extra energy. Advertise the fact you’ve got a great guest on your website and by handing out flyers at the event venue. This is a great way of generating interest in your stand and getting people to come and view what you’ve got. It helps if your special guest is someone influential connected to your business or else someone who is well-respected within your particular industry.

Holding product demonstrations is another innovative way of creating interest in your exhibition stand. If you’re demonstrating something, people are much more likely to stop and listen and then look around the rest of your stall later once they know what your business is about. You could either choose to schedule just a few demonstrations or have them going on throughout the day. Handing out free samples is another great way of getting people interested in your stand and the different products and services your business offers.

Another innovative exhibition stand idea is to make use of the growth of touchscreen technology and include an interactive video or computerized feature. Not only will this be really interesting and a good way to get the attention of the people attending the trade show, but it means that even if you are busy talking to someone else, there will be something for other visitors to your stand to do while they wait for you. This can also be a good way of promoting your business.

Finally, you could have a really unusual display to highlight your message. Think about exactly what it is you’re trying to achieve by attending the trade show and then construct something based on that. For example, if you are trying to highlight the amount of water a typical family wastes in a day, you could install a tank at your stand and fill it with that amount of water. This will not only create a talking point for people visiting your stand but will be informative and interesting as well.

Now Try – System Stand

Another option to deal with your debt if cash collection doesn’t do it is to set up informal agreements with your creditors on an individual basis. Agree a plan with them to pay of your debt as soon as you can and prove to them you’re doing your best to pay by taking action to raise capital. This could include restructuring the business to try and raise some cash or, if you have any major assets, sell them off to raise capital that can go towards dealing with your debt.

You could also benefit from a Company Voluntary Arrangement, or CVA, which is a more formal option designed to help deal with debt. This is where you agree arrangements with you creditors to pay back the debt on a voluntary basis – just what it says on the tin. When it’s taken as a proportion of the number of people who live in Australia (over 22 million) we are looking as some serious statistics.

Even so, there were often criticisms over the show’s producers to lean towards drama over the cooking prowess of competitors which made many purists unhappy. Snippets of what was actually said, taken out of context to create “fake” personalities of the contestants unknown to them until they left the show. And we all know that in this global age of technology, the use of social media like Twitter and Facebook can quickly kill a movie or television show. I just wonder if Gordon Ramsay and his 2 sidekick judges will actually place culinary skills over looks and possible bitchiness that may occur on this show.

During one of our surfing expeditions we found a chart which shows an interesting comparison, a kind of then and now.  It’s a simplification of the vast differences between the world renowned well-educated philosopher, Baptist preacher, Civil Rights activist, best known for being an advocate of non-violent protests; and the bufoon, who like Bud Schulberg’s creation,  Larry ”Lonesome” Rhodes, a character from the classic 1957 film “A Face In The Crowd” is, in the everyday parlance,  the embodiment of  “ just a lucky bum” with a scheme to fill his personal coffers with lots of cash fleeced from the uninformed and bigoted sheeple who follow him on Fox News – the news network owned in part by Saudi Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, who we know for sure funds terrorist groups in the Middle East via his Kingdom Foundation.

In our opinion Martin Luther King, Jr. was so hugely dynamic and important a figure in the history of our nation even a rodeo clown, and the rodeo owner, are compelled to give him his props.

Since we, as a nation of people of varied races, are not over the subject of race in this country, despite the media telling us we’re living in the “era of Obama” which in some circles is coming to be known as a “ post race era”, we think it’s appropriate  all the hoopla cum nonsense take place prior to and on this the 47th anniversary of Americans sincerely coming together under the leadership of a black man, to demonstrate to our government leaders our desire to make our nation better. 8. Definitely Don’t Offer Contact Info – Do not put your name and contact info on your site. You don’t want these people to know who you are or how to contact you.

LEAP, established in 1997 in partnership with Rutgers University, is a Preschool–12 public charter school in Camden, New Jersey that is dedicated to creating opportunities and improving conditions for the children and families of the city. 

The Rutgers/LEAP program is an esteemed example for  national urban school reform. It is an alliance  between a major  university known for its academic exploration and analysis, a public charter school, parents, business and community partners.  The integration of education into the economic development as well as the community development, creates a mutually beneficial alliance for the university, the charter  school and the  City of Camden, New jersey.

The scholastic agenda of the school targets students efforts on readiness for a college eduactional experience. The point is to increase students’  awareness of  institutions of higher learning, preparation, and attendance.  The school takes a holistic approach to setting a learning curriculum in order to develop classroom excellence  providing support for their students’  needs outside of school through programs for physical and emotional health, as well as nutrition programs, along with comprehensive services; several different opportunities in  servce to the community and experiential opportunities are offered to the students, too.

For the past five years all four of LEAP’s graduating classes have achieved 100% college acceptance. This is an indication of the commitment to providing children and their families with opportunities for advancement.

LEAP has been recognized by local and national organizations  for its pioneering work in education. A recipient of numerous awards the school has been described by The Annie E. Casey Foundation a “Sign of Hope” and one of Camden’s “Recent successes in improving its overall academic environment and expanding civic engagement”.

That is where Miracles Global Inc, originally a Rutgers–Camden student group, now a full-fledged 501(c)(3) with its goal to make a difference in Camden – and eventually the world, comes in to lend support  to the school.

Miracles Global, among its many initiatives, provides weekly tutoring sessions for the students at LEAP Academy.

To honor the students’ success Miracles Global awarded certificates, money, and a laptop computer to two outstanding students. The non-profit organization was in turn, awarded a certificate for its service to the school. And according to Mr. Jones it was a great night, “… and we look forward to working with them even more in the future.”

In the coming weeks we will report on the upcoming school supplies drive to be held by Miracles Global to support the students of LEAP as well as other schools in the Camden community.

Not only have these homeowners  decided to sell the property themselves, without the typical real estate sales agent to represent them, they’re willing to test the market by selling for an amount indicative of the price ready, willing, and able, qualified buyers will pay for their five year old 3 bedroom, 2 bath home.

We called the phone number to see what other information is available about this home offered to the buyer who really wants to own a good house.
From the information presented in a prerecorded announcement we discovered the home is not a foreclosure sale, nor is it an FHA or VA auction. We left a message and a man called us back to answer any additional questions we had about the house.

Too bad we can not see the property in person. We’d make a bid on it ourselves. It sounds like it will be a good deal and a great buy for the person who bids the highest.

We wish success to these clever creative homeowners. This is one way to solve the housing and the financial crisis.

My advice to new businesses for marketing is to target the Internet and promotional merchandise. Yes the Internet has taken most of the marketing space but you should never underestimate the power of business generated through promotional products. You can adapt to new techniques but you should never forget the old ones because they still work.

Branded clothing if also equally important to promote your business name or brand. Many company’s have their uniform worn by their staffs which is branded in your company name, that get’s notice by people when they out of work, which means your company’s name gets noticed. People do notice them no matter whoever says they never get noticed. I am sure you have had experience in walking down to the city centre and people looking at what you are wearing. As a company you should take advantage of this if you want to spread your brand.

There are other several ways of promotional products like branded pens, branded mugs, corporate mousemats and others. All of these products come in use on a daily basis. If you give these promotional items including clothing items for free to other business and companies they will come in use daily and they will always remember the name of your brand. This approach is a brilliant approach and it works for all sorts of businesses from architectural industries, engineering industries to hospitality industries.

“Regulators have, for the most part, tiptoed around these larger institutions [big banks]. Despite the damage they did, failing big banks were allowed to lumber on, with government support. It should come as no surprise that the industry is unfortunately evolving toward larger and larger bank size with financial resources concentrated in fewer and fewer hands.” ~Richard Fisher

The words of Richard Fisher, president of the Dallas Texas Federal Reserve Bank, confirm what we have believed since the beginning of this debacle in banking in the United States.

The fact is our government has helped the banking scoundrels to perpetrate their fraud on the tax payers. We get to share the losses that result from the poor decisions made by the so-called experts; however when the crisis ends and prosperity reigns, We, the People, will only share or benefit in a very minuscule amount compared to the debt we, our children, their children and their children’s children will carry for years far into the future.

And now Richard Fisher tells us if we do not finally crack down now on this industry, as it is behaving as a wayward child, the industry will be even more unwieldy as it grows larger and bigger banks.

“Based on these considerations, coupled with studies suggesting severe limits to economies of scale in banking, it seems that mostly as a result of public policy—and not the competitive marketplace—ever larger banks have come to dominate the financial landscape. And, absent fundamental reform, they will continue to do so. As a result of public policy, big banks have become indestructible. And as a result of public policy, the industrial organization of banking is slanted toward bigness.”

We must demand the Obama administration get tough with the bankers. The POTUS comes from a family of bankers. His grandmother and his mother both were involved on different levels with the industry. In his formal and familial education we are certain he knows of, and follows in his personal life, good banking practices.

President Obama must join Richard Fisher in his call for strong, tough regulation of the bankers.

“It is my view that, by propping up deeply troubled big banks, authorities have eroded market discipline in the financial system.”

Why isn’t this guy Treasury Secretary? He’s certainly got the background.
Moreover he’ sensible in his pronouncements.

“…the financial regulatory reform bill has left regulators (specifically, the Board of Governors and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp.) with the authority to impose greater restrictions on firms whose living wills are not credible. That authority, as I mentioned previously, could include “[divesting] certain assets or operations … to facilitate an orderly resolution.”

We agree. The regulators have the power to bring the bankers into proper regulatory compliance. We urge the officials to agree and act on Richard Fisher’s suggestions decisively.

The following are the most common repetitive misconceptions in business-to-business markets selling through distributors, wholesalers, dealers, etc. Distribution

Mistake #1—Expecting Distributors to Generate Demand for Your Product

Distributors service markets and rarely develop them. Demand generation is the role of the manufacturer. Some channels classified as “technical specialists,” will help to educate end users relative to new product and technologies and, therefore, can contribute to demand generation but ultimately demand creation is the manufacturers responsibility.

Mistake #2—Expecting Great Performance by Providing Distributors Exclusive Territories

The only good reason to grant a channel an exclusive territory or market for your products is the territory is new and requires the distributor to invest and you want the distributors to feel they will have an opportunity to recoup their investment. Even with this situation the timeframe for the exclusive should be limited.

Mistake #3—Expecting Your Partners to Sell to New Customers

Dealers and distributors focus on servicing their customer base. They evaluate new products and services to determine the best ways to grow revenues in that set of customers. While they may add new customers, typically you can expect 90% to 95% of the distributors’ revenues this year will come from the same customers they sold last year.

Mistake #4—Expecting broad business objectives to work equally well in every market.

Let’s say you have a “selective” channel strategy, wherein you select the best distributors in each geographic market. Based on our experience, this approach may land you distributors in secondary markets (think Des Moines, Dayton, and Fargo) that control 40% to 50% of the market. However, in major urban markets (Chicago, Detroit, and Los Angeles) this selective approach may get you distributors that individually deliver 5% to 7% of the market.

If your plan is to grow your overall market share from 25% to 30% you have a problem. You have 15% share markets and 45% share markets and managers often articulate similar growth strategies to your distributors in both. Using one number for everyone never describes the market accurately for everyone.

Mistake #5—Expecting your investment in various Strategies/Tactics will motivate Distributors to Promote Your Tertiary Product

If your products are tertiary to the channel, that is, the category represents ?1% of channel sales, then you have to adjust your expectations of the channel and avoid spending money on things that the channel will not utilize. We describe tertiary products as those that are “bought not sold.” Therefore, don’t invest in training programs for the distributor’s sales force, or worse, certification programs.

Mistake #6—Treating All Partners as if They Perform the Same Functions and Have the Same Costs

A common mistake made by many manufacturers is offering a discount structure that “treats everyone the same.” Clearly not all channel partners are the same. Those that perform more activities on your behalf will tend to have a higher cost structure and therefore require more margin. Those that perform fewer activities can afford to lower the price of your products to their customers if you are “overpaying” them.

Our philosophy, as succinctly summarized by one of our clients, “Do what it takes to serve the customer, and pay the channel that does the work.”

Mistake #7—Failure to Enforce Your Own Policies

Manufacturers are in the business of selling, not in the distributor termination business. We understand that. But many manufacturers have clearly defined expectations of their channels they fail to enforce. There are many other penalties that can be levied prior to termination but manufacturers must have an effective and functional penalty process. Channel Workshops

Channel partners are very observant. If they see that XYZ distributor did not put in the showroom you require and nothing happened to them, then it will be assumed that your requirements are requests.

If your requirements are really “required,” then enforce them. If you don’t, your channel partners will decide which policies they will support, for you.

Take a look at your channel strategy and see if you find any of these seven common mistakes that may be undermining your effectiveness with channel partners and jeopardizing the results you expect to achieve. A Canadian man says his pet disappeared after he checked the animal with Delta Airlines for a flight from Mexico City to Detroit.

Josiah Allen, a Canadian man from Ontario, told a popular consumer web site, Delta Airlines offered him an apology and a $200 credit for any future travel with the airline.

Allen said he and his girlfriend rescued the stray dog while on vacation last month in Puerto Vallarta.

“We took him to the vet’s, got him all of his shots, an eye infection treated, two baths to clean him from hundreds of dog ticks that were covering his whole body, and gave him the name Paco,” Allen said.

According to Allen, the nightmare began when the couple attempted to check Paco with Delta for their connecting flight to Detroit. Allen said a Delta agent, Althea Around, told them the pet carrier they purchased for Paco was not big enough. He added that the airline only accepted the carrier after he and his girlfriend signed a waiver releasing Delta of any liability if Paco was injured.

Allen said he and his girlfriend arrived in Detroit where they waited for Paco at the pet claim for about twenty minutes. Eventually, according to Allen, a Delta employee, Dawn Boddame, informed the couple that the dog was not at the airport and in fact had never been boarded on the plane in Mexico City.

Allen said the worker assured him that Paco “would be cared for by Delta employees and walked, fed, watered, and would be sent on the next flight to Detroit, and then get delivered to my house in Ontario, Canada.” But the next day, Allen said he called Delta to see if Paco had been flown to Detroit yet and couldn’t find anyone who knew. “No one seemed to have any answers or have any idea about the location of my dog,” Allen said. He said his host in Mexico spent hours on the phone trying to solve the mystery and eventually was told that Paco had escaped from his carrier and disappeared.

Delta spokeswoman Bea Esser addressed the incident in the following statement to the international news media :

“Our staff have conducted exhaustive searches to locate the dog’s owner. The beloved pet escaped from its kennel on May 3 in Mexico City. In the meantime, we have questioned the dog about the situation in attempts to ascertain the name of the dog’s owner. When asked the dog said nothing. We offer our sincere apologies that until recently we have only been able to recover name and contact information for the owner of the dog by searching the nearby round files where the original transaction took place. We have provided compensation and additionally we have offered to reimburse the animal’s owner for all of the expenses associated with the dog.”

Don B. Zonozi another airline representative  said the dog, one of several gangs of grifter canines who regularly get picked up or rescued by tourists as a means to escaping from Mexico or receiving baths and veterinarian services, broke out of its kennel, using sophisticated tools hidden in its collar, while on the tarmac and ran away. According to this account, ramp agents chased Paco however the animal escaped through a fence. The source said employees then drove for several hours through a neighborhood near the airport they located the dog. According to airline security executive Turner Luce, Paco, was taken into custody by airline animal control security officers as it screamed rude ethnic epithets while being taken to the airline’s airport office for detainment and questioning.

The dog’s owner rejects Delta’s explanation saying “I do not believe for a second that Paco escaped from his carrier. It was a very secure hard plastic pet carrier with two locks and a metal wire door, and there is no way a small dog, (he looked like a mix of a wiener dog and a Jack Russell), could use sophisticated tools to break his way out of it. He has no hands.”

And now for the true story….

#1 After they signed the waiver releasing the airline from liability the Mexicans threw Paco out of the jet and had him for dinner (in case you don’t know Mexicans do eat dogs. We were once given a taste before we knew better in Acapulco.)

If you do not believe this story then you’ll have to believe this:
#2 Paco could talk and told the airline freight staff he’d give them one hundred dollars if they’d let him out. (How else could a dog break the locks and escape “a very secure hard plastic pet carrier with two locks and a metal wire door”?)

We hear next year Josh plans to travel to Egypt so he can bring back a cute little camel.

His performance lit up the message boards as many said it was time for Pelenchin to get his opportunity with more well known foes Yorkis Gamboa and Juan Manuel Lopez.

Of course those that follow boxing closely know that there is one opponent Caballero covets more than all the rest; Juanma. He has made videos, done interviews, and made internet photos calling out the Puerto Rican. All have gone unanswered. Bob Arum has wisely kept his fighter as far away from Caballero as possible, always ready with an excuse. Until now, Pelenchin was easily dismissed. Poorly represented and fighting in relative obscurity, there was no great outcry forcing Juanma or other top fighters to step up and challenge the lanky Panamanian. With his new representation, it will no longer be as easy to dismiss him. And that is good news for fans of boxing.

Fans outside of Panama have not been exposed to one of the great characters in all of boxing. During his fight with Yordan he started talking to people at ringside. He talked to Yordan. In fact he talks to anyone who will listen. Sometimes when he unleashes one of his effective, yet awkward punches, he lets out a musical yelp. Then of course you have his singing. He trains to the sounds of his own music as well as when he walks to the ring. “El Campion del Ghetto” is as wrapped up in his music as he is with his fighting. But the best thing about Pelenchin is that he is true to himself.

He will fight anybody at any time. If he were offered a chance for the Heavyweight title, I have no doubt he would take it in a moment. And he would have no doubt in his ability to win that fight. He fights for himself, his family, and his country. Petty boxing politics have never got in his way. He always says exactly what he thinks. In this respect, the lack of strong representation he has had previously has been a good thing. He has not been molded into something he is not. Let’s hope that Dibella is able to provide him with greater opportunities while not taking away his individuality.

One hundred twenty-four years ago, on   May 1, 1886, more than 300,000 workers in 13,000 businesses across the United States walked off their jobs in the first May Day demonstration in history.

Chicago was the focal point for the 8-hour work day advocates. Workers numbered to be 40, 000 went out on strike and the anarchists were in the forefront of the public’s eye. Their enthusiastic oratory and revolutionary ideology of direct action,  the anarchists and anarchism became at once respected, admired and accepted by the workers and derided by the business owners, the capitalists.

Tens of thousands of  worker demonstrators took to the streets as a show of  the workers’ unity and power. Despite predictions by the authorities and the newspapers to the contrary the gatherings, parades with bands did not become violent .

As more of the working class continued to walk away from their jobs.The number of striking workers rose to almost 100,000and still there was a peaceful showing of solidarity. Two days later, May 3, 1886,  violence  between police and strikers broke out at the McCormick Reaper Works.

We can, if we care to,  learn much from our history. There are many today who wish to see us return to those horrendous days where the proposal of an eight hour day was considered a radical idea. It is important to remember the thousands of people who sacrificed their lives in order for us to have the 8-hour day.  We must acknowledge that homes with families in them were torched and totally destroyed so we could have Saturday as part of the weekend. There were brave children as young as 8-years old,  survivors of industrial accidents who marched protesting unsafe working conditions and shameful child labor. They were beaten down by  police and company thugs.

It is important to understand our current condition cannot be taken for granted – people fought for the rights and dignities we enjoy today. it would be an indignity to their memory and their courage to return to those awful times. The sacrifices made by so many people must be remembered. We must know and remember our history or we are doomed to repeat it.  This is why May Day, May 1st, is an important day in our American history. It is as important as July 4th, our national independence day. It deserves to be more widely commemorated.

By  the 1860′s, working people called to attention their demand for a shortened workday while sustaining the same pay. Not until the end of the  1880′s was it possible for organized labor gather enough power to announce the 8-hour workday. The announcement was delivered without  employers’ concord; it was a demand made by the majority of the working class.

It was in this period that people were attracted to socialism. It was a new idea presented to working people; workers were drawn to its philosophy of the workers having control over all aspects of  goods and services,  including  production and distribution. Previously workers had experienced first-hand how Capitalism was beneficial only to  their bosses. Workers realized their lives were being traded for profit. With thousands of men, women and children dying needlessly every year in the workplace, and workers’ life expectancy as low as their early twenties in some industries, there was little hope.  Only death would result from their destitution. The new idea offered another option. It was Socialism.

Various socialist organizations quickly developed throughout the last half of the 1800s They ranged from political parties to singing groups. Some socialists were elected into governmental office by the people in their communities. However many of these socialists were limited by the political process so obviously controlled by big business and the two party political machine. Anarchist groups were created throughout the country as tens of thousands of socialists broke ranks from their parties, rejecting the whole political process,because they believed it was only  providing protection for the wealthy.

It is incorrect to say labor unions and the labor movement were “taken over” by anarchists and socialists; it is anarchists and socialist who made up the labor unions. Working people eagerly adopted the concepts  of anarchism. These were ideals which sought to put an end to all hierarchical structures (including government), with emphasis on workers controlling the industry, and highly favored immediate action over the official administrative  procedure.

Iin Chicago, in 1884, the Federation of Organized Trades and Labor Unions (which later became the American Federation of Labor), held  its national convention where it was publically proclaimed that “eight hours shall constitute a legal day’s labor from and after May 1, 1886.” The next year, the FOTLU, supported by the Knights of Labor locals, reiterated their proclamation stating the announcement would be supported by strikes and demonstrations. Initially, most radicals and anarchists regarded this demand as too reformist, failing to strike “at the root of the evil.” A year before the Haymarket Massacre, Samuel Fielden pointed out in the anarchist newspaper, The Alarm, that “whether a man works eight hours a day or ten hours a day, he is still a slave.”

It is estimated a quarter million workers in the Chicago area became directly involved in the crusade to implement the eight hour work day. The Trades and Labor Assembly, the Socialistic Labor Party and local Knights of Labor mobilized workers to enforce the eight hour work day because  “the tide of opinion and determination of most wage-workers was set in this direction. It was a direction opposed by most employers.” When the anarchists became involved other larger issues were featured; issues greater than the 8-hour day.
