A Guide To The Samsung Galaxy

    Oct 11, 2010 in Communications

Clearly with a name like “Galaxy”, the pressure is on to deliver. Samsung has built a substantial reputation for itself over the years by delivering quality products at a reasonable price, and this tradition continues with the Samsung Galaxy. If you are looking for an Android smartphone with a good deal of functionality, then the Galaxy might just be one to consider. Right out of the gate, the Samsung Galaxy will catch your attention with a couple of its more notable features.

The Samsung Galaxy uses a 4-inch Super AMOLED screen that has a resolution of 480×800, which it is safe to state serves up a very impressive images, especially for a mobile device. If you want to have impressive mobile video, then this is certainly the kind of technology you might want to be looking for in a smartphone. If you are unfamiliar with OLED displays, then they have a few advantages over other display offerings. OLED displays are believed to be more durable, and offer brighter images and response times. They are easier to view when outdoors. Super AMOLED is believed to take this all up another notch by consuming less energy and being even brighter. The end result is, of course, additional wow factor. This wow factor is only heightened when used in conjunction with the multi-zoom feature or playing back some particularly rich video content. Don’t be surprised if you don’t draw a little bit of a crowd.

This device has a 1 GHz processor, multi-touch zoom, a 5 MP camera as well as HD video player and recorder that records in a full 720p. If you are thinking that this display is tailor made for video on the go, you are correct. The Samsung Galaxy handles an assortment of video codecs, ranging from MPEG4 and H.264 to AVI and DivX. Likewise, all major audio formats are supported, such as MP3. In terms of battery life, the Galaxy does a good job especially considering the size of its display and the functionality of the phone. Just remember that 3G will use more of your battery life than 2G. Keep this fact in mind if battery life is a critical issue when you are buying any phone. If you are looking for a head turning smartphone, this is probably one that you should consider. The display will certainly add to a new fun factor to your smartphone experience. Samsung continues to make impressive phones and the Galaxy is no exception.

HTC Desire HD : An Impressive Phone

    Oct 11, 2010 in Communications

The cell phone and smartphone market is most definitely a crowded one, and it only seems to get more crowded. In part, this is of course due to the fact that the smartphone market is simply massive, and all projections are that the market will only grow considerably in the next few years. Even in this crowded environment HTC has managed to stand out. With products like the HTC Desire HD it is easy to see why this is the case.

With the HTC Desire HD, HTC has provided users with a 1 GHz Android 2.2 processor that allows for a great deal of functionality. Additionally, this Android based phone will also allow for a wide variety of applications to be used. If you are looking for a smartphone with plenty of processing punch, then this is certainly one to consider. A great deal of processing power might go to waste without enough memory or RAM and on this point HTC delivers once more. With a healthy 1.5 GB in storage and 768 MB of RAM, the HTC Desire HD is ready to handle the demanding requirements of today’s mobile computing.

The Desire HD has a 4.3-inch screen that handles video and browsing rather well. The most common video and audio formats such as Windows Media Video 9 and MP3 are supported along with numerous others.

It just seems like yesterday that 5 MP cameras were quite the range on smartphones, but HTC is already offering an 8 MP camera on its Desire HD. You will likely be happy to hear that the HTC Desire HD also has a dual LED flash as well, so that you can be assured of getting a good picture in any lighting condition. You are probably thinking that the “HD” part of the HTC Desire HD’s name must come into play somewhere and you’re right. One of the ways that the HTC Desire HD lives up to its name is in its video recording. The HTC Desire HD can record at 720p. Having a large screen is important for many, if not most, smartphone users.

A further area where the HTC Desire HD stands out is in terms of special touches like Dolby Mobile and SRS virtual surround sound for a richer experience when watching movies and listening to videos. Yet, this only scratches the surface of all the added functionality that comes standard in the phone both in terms of hardware and software. The HTC Desire HD also has HTC Peep for tweeting as well as other software for social networking. Other touches such as an internal GPS antenna and the ability to share videos, music and photos between your phone and television thanks to DLNA also further help the HTC Desire HD distinguish itself.

If you are looking for a phone with a lot of power, memory, the ability to handle all sorts of apps, you could do much worse than the HTC Desire HD. The Desire HD lives up to its name and even records 720p video. Sure the smartphone market might be a crowded place, but even in a crowded field, the HTC Desire HD has the specs to stand out and get noticed!

    Understanding PABX Systems And VOIP

    Oct 01, 2010 in Communications

PABX systems are the new revolution in telephone systems, as they offer so much benefit to your company. No longer are traditional telephone lines used, the type that were merely utilized to dial numbers and receive calls. There are many revolutions in technology that have increased the capability of telephone systems where they hardly even resemble their earlier counterparts.

PABXs are formally employed for businesses to use their own telephone network, which raises efficiency and improves communications within the company. The PABX ensures that it is easier to transfer calls to the correct people and for things to be dealt with professionally.

There exists a new type of PABX system which uses VOIP technology, called IP-PABX, which technically puts the calls over the web so that everything is virtual. With this technology there are other features which can be used to improve the switchboard and increase its benefits. If you have the IP-PABX system, then you will be able to create telephone extensions simply and easily using the internet. This helps a lot if you have a new employee, and urgently need a new telephone line. With IP-PABX you won’t have to wait for a technician to come out and put in a new physical line. In this manner, you are also saving money. The features for an IP-PABX should not be overlooked either, as there is so much you can do with them. To begin with, this feature is great for businesses as the business owners will be able to tell which telephone numbers were called in, and which ones were dialled out. This is excellent for finding out if your workers are spending too much time on private phone calls. Furthermore, using this technology the business owner will be able to block certain numbers from being called, including cell phones.

Regardless of the kind of PABX system, the functions stay the same. The system receives incoming calls which are assigned a code associated with which number was dialled by the caller. The telephone call is then routed to the appropriate extension. Some PABX systems can be programmed to have an automatic answering service. Then once the caller has reached this answering service they will be prompted to press a number which will lead them to the right extension. Or alternatively, there will simply be a nice professional greeting message when the caller phones the main line, just before they are transferred. With a PABX system; you can also put a personalised answering service on the relevant extensions if there is no one to respond to the call.

It is fairly easy to find a respectable dealer who sells PABX systems. Because they can be quite costly, it is sometimes advisable to take them on a monthly repayment plan, or even to hire them. Looking on the internet can be a good resource for finding a trusted PABX system. If you look on the websites of the companies you are looking at, you should be able to easily find information on the various PABX products they have to offer.

    Sep 08, 2010 in Communications

HTC was traditionally a business that manufactured smartphones for other people, providing the technology and design for other brands to sell as exclusive products. However, switching from the Windows Mobile operating platform to Android saw the company develop its position not just as a manufacturer for brands like Google, with the Nexus One, but also for its own products, which most recently have included the Legend, and now the new HTC Desire. Sep 08, 2010 in Communications

Apple recently launched its new iPhone 4, in its usual understated blaze of publicity. LG Optimus – How Good Is It?

    Sep 07, 2010 in Communications

The LG Optimus is one of a new generation of LG phones that will attempt to try and develop the company’s share of the ever popular smartphone market. The LG brand has always proved popular with mobile users, but can this new smartphone compete with some of the established heavy-hitters in the market?

The Optimus is another example of LG’s ability to make good looking phones. The phone’s design and quality finish mean that, not only will you be more than happy to be seen using it, it is easy and comfortable to handle when you do; and even with a decent sized touchscreen, the phone is easily carried in your pocket or purse.

The touchscreen on the Optimus is smaller than some of the other smartphones at just 3 inches, but it’s big enough so that you can comfortably use it to view web pages, emails, photos and video. The touchscreen itself provides a nice clear and bright display, with a handy auto-rotate feature provided by the built in accelerometer.

The Optimus has the standard 3G and Bluetooth connectivity, and like all the other smartphones on the market, it also allows the user to connect to WiFi networks for a faster browsing and download experience. With more people using their smartphones to access the top social networking sites, the Optimus’s built in features have got real-time Facebook and Twitter updates covered.

Using the Android 1.6 version, the Optimus has a slightly outdated operating system when compared to some of the other Android phones on the market, but it is more than enough for an entry-level smartphone. Overall performance is excellent, and with your choice of apps from the Android Market, and good battery life, most users will find it is more than enough for what they need from a smartphone.

The only real downside to the Optimus is the 3 megapixel camera, which is a adequate if not outstanding in today’s smartphone market. The autofocus is a great feature that makes taking photos much easier, however there’s no flash, which makes shooting inside or in low light a little disappointing. The video capture is good, but it isn’t going to worry any of the bigger smartphones.

The likes of Apple, HTC and Google are not going to be overly worried about the challenge from the LG Optimus, but this would probably suit LG just fine. It can’t, and isn’t meant to, compete with the top smartphones. Instead, it is meant to be an affordable smartphone that offers most people what they want; something it does very well.

The Blackberry Curve – Is It Worth Buying?

    Sep 07, 2010 in Communications

When you mention the name Blackberry, most people think about suit wearing business types, who simply couldn’t live without their quirky looking mobile phone that keeps them in touch with emails and share prices 24/7. Blackberry knows it has a bit of a reputation as the business-only smartphone, but they have set their sights on taking Blackberrys to the masses, and with the increased demand for sophisticated smartphones, has the time come for the Blackberry Curve?

Blackberry phones are renowned for their full-sized keyboard and rather chunky looks, and the Curve is no different. Most people will either love or hate the keyboard layout and slightly wider feel of the Curve, although it doesn’t feel overly big, and its size does have the additional benefit of allowing space for one of the few ‘widescreen’ displays on the smartphone market. With a choice of colors to give your phone a little personality, Blackberry is keen to make the Curve a little less stuffy.

Whether is was to differentiate it from the business versions, or simply to cut costs and make the Curve more accessible to the consumer market, Blackberry have made a couple of changes. There is a trackpad instead of the trackball on other models, and the shiny chrome finish has been replaced by a more practical rubber one. Apart from that, it still looks and feels like the kind of quality phone you’d expect from Blackberry.

Blackberry have left out a number of features that some might expect, especially when it comes to connectivity, but the Curve is designed to be a basic, but usable smartphone. While it doesn’t support 3G and lacks the GPS feature of some of the more expensive smartphones, it does have WiFi, and the QWERTY keyboard and software that makes setting up multiple e-mail and social networking accounts simple, means user will find it easy to keep in touch.

Navigating around the Curve is nice and simple, thanks to Blackberry’s operating system and the user-friendly interface. You can add to the pre-installed apps thanks to the App World, and the music player is better than many would expect – the Curve even includes dedicated music control keys, to make it more appealing to consumers.

With the smartphone market dominated by the three or four big names, it looks like Blackberry is going to make the most of its business experience and provide a cheaper alternative that gives users what they want, in a way that lets them be a little different to the rest of the Apple, Google and HTC crowd.

What You Need To Know About The Blackberry Bold

    Sep 06, 2010 in Communications

With the wide variety of phones available, it was usually only business types that would actually choose to have a Blackberry, and this was mostly due to its success as a communication device rather than all singing, all dancing smartphone. Blackberry has been trying to extend the appeal of its phones, and the improvements to the new Blackberry Bold are designed to make it more consumer-friendly.

The traditional Blackberry look is a bit like Marmite. Some love the full QWERTY keyboard and the ease with which it composes emails, texts, etc. – and others don’t. As good as the new Bold looks, and it has lost a bit of weight and gained a bit of shine, it will always be hard for Blackberry to convert thousands of Apple and HTC users. But the new, better looking Bold looks attractive enough that some will be tempted. Those who embrace the QWERTY keyboard are rewarded with the Bold’s ‘widescreen’ display, which even after the original’s dimensions have been trimmed, is still a decent size. The excellent resolution provides clear and bright images, and colors look rich and vibrant – perfect for viewing images and video.

There’s no shortage of connectivity options, which is usual for most smartphones, and especially one that has built its reputation on being the communication device of choice for businesses all over the world. As well as 3G, Bluetooth and WiFi, the Bold has GPS for use with the built in Blackberry Maps application. With a 3.2 megapixel camera that can record HVGA video as well as taking still shots, the Bold will have most image capture situations covered, especially as it also has auto focus, a 2x digital zoom, and an LED flash.

With the latest Blackberry 5 operating system on board, and the more than capable processor, the new Bold proves itself to be more than just a business machine, and can easily handle images, videos, and music, which are now much more a part of the new Bold. Surfing the internet is no problem, although the built in browser does slow up on sites with lots of content. As you’d expect, the Bold is great for keeping in touch, and communication with different people, using different sources, is managed easily. Some people might think that Blackberry’s contact and messaging interface isn’t as dynamic as some of the other smartphones on the market, but it’s simple, and it works well.

The latest version of the Bold offers a lot, and not just to business users. With an improved and still unique look, an updated user interface, and better integration of the kind of media and communication features that smartphone users want, it offers a real alternative to the other options on the market.
