March For Jobs And Freedom Anniversary Marked By The Other 98%, Celebrate The Dream and A Rodeo Clown With A $cheme

Aug 27, 2010 in We Think

On Saturday, August 28, 2010 many Americans around the world will remember the forty-seventh anniversary of the historic March On Washington For Jobs and Freedom. It is the monumental event which, few would dispute, was the culmination of the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s. It was considered the very first time a U.S. president gave the organized descendants of former slaves and poor people his undivided attention and with the intent to change their lot through decisive legislation.

Several groups will be in Washington for commemoration of this very historic American event. (more…)

Daily Show’s Stewart Says End Radical Islam Stop Watching Fox News

Aug 24, 2010 in We Think

We’ve long held the idea that watching news programs, any news programs, is a collossal waste of time. We especially find it true that anyone who is among the thousands millions who watch FoxNews Channel on a regular basis does so only to increase the lack of intelligence quota. or theLIQ. (This acronym when followed by the letters O-U-R are the reason so many people are watching Fox News Channel and come away far less informed than they were when they began watching the news programs offered by the cable news channel…) (more…)

Jamie France: Don’t You Wish You’d Started Your Racing Career Earlier?

Aug 13, 2010 in We Think

Too bad 44 year-old Jamie C. (J.C.) France, the grandson of NASCAR founder Bill France, the son of Grand-Am founder Jim France; and cousin of Brian France chairman and CEO of NASCAR,  can’t turn back the hands of time to follow the example set by 12 year-old  race car driver, Gray Gaulding. Gaulding has amassed $20K in race winnings so far this year 2010, along with 10 first place wins out of a total of thirty starts.

According to his very supportive parents, the family relocated from Virginia to North Carolina to fuel his racing desires, Gray Gaulding began racing motor bikes at age three. (more…)

Explosions of Every Nuclear Bomb 1945 Through 1998

Aug 10, 2010 in We Think

We could not escape all this talk in the United States of nuclear weaponry because of the commemoration of the use of the atomic bombs dropped on civilians in Japan in 1945.

We found an  interesting video piece created in 2003 by the  artist  Isao Hashimoto of Japan. We are sure you will be surprised, as were we, to see the number of devices detonated since 1945 up to and including 1998; that’s more than ten years ago. How many more bombs have been tested since 1998? What are our world leaders arming us against?

Advice On Choosing A Sixth Form College

    Aug 08, 2010 in Education

There are a few options available to young people over the age of sixteen who want to take A-level and other higher education exams. Many schools do not provide sixth form study programs, and so many students find themselves trying to decide if they should stay at their current school or move on to sixth form college. There are a number of advantages, as well as disadvantages, when it comes to options for continuing study.

There are several important things to consider. Firstly, what subjects do you want to study? Some colleges specialize in particular areas such as arts or sciences. Some sixth form colleges will get better results in your chosen subjects than others. Secondly, can you or your family afford to pay the fees of a private, independent college? Thirdly, how far are you able to travel?

There are several reasons to attend a sixth form college. You may be embarking on a career that requires apprenticeship or prior experience and education. You may want to continue studying some of your favorite subjects in A-level courses, especially if you have already gained high grades in them at GCSE. But not everyone is sure of where they want to go, so a sixth form college can help you find your true calling.

Generally, sixth form colleges have a more relaxed approach to learning than secondary schools. Sixth formers who stay on at their school are given more freedom and often privileges than their juniors and are encouraged to study in a more independent way. Styles of teaching do vary significantly between different schools and sixth form colleges. Some will use continual assessment rather than big exams, while others may have practical workshops rather than classroom lectures.

Before you commit to a sixth form college, you should research all your options. Find out about the average class size, and how many graduates were able to find jobs or continue their education. Checking sixth form colleges that are near you is fairly easy, and you should take advantage of an open day to further your efforts. You will also be able to determine if the college takes a more relaxed approach or if a more stringent plan is followed. More distant colleges may be difficult to visit, but a great deal of information about each college is available on the internet. There are no limits on the number of colleges where you may apply but you do need to be sure that you meet the deadline. Every college sets their own deadline, so make sure you know what it is for each one. More popular classes fill up quickly, so you will need to apply for those in Year 11, Autumn term.

    Rapid Reading Tips

    Aug 05, 2010 in Education

Speed reading exercises aim to increase the rate of reading without affecting retention or comprehension of the text. There are many different methods for speed reading but the essential is that they all focus on a balance between speed and comprehension. Another thing: they all necessitate a certain amount of practice.

Speed readers go about their thing in a variety of ways like not vocalizing all words, making out words without recognizing every letter in each word and quickly skimming through the text. Each reader will have methods that come more in a more instinctual way and they’ll unveil themselves with practice and time. Overall, the goal is to get your eyes to move at a faster rate and recognize words quickly. (more…)

The recent news of released military classified documents related to the Afghanistan War, and the related hacking that was done to access the classified materials gave us pause, along with others, to ask questions about the term. We wondered how it came to be, and what constitutes the practice of hacking. How long have hackers been in existence? (more…)
