General Motors Acceptance Corporation, GMAC, is now a bank.

On Wednesday, December 24, 2008 The New York Times published a report stating Federal regulators have approved the section of General Motors that handles financing, for cars and for homes, to become a bank in order to access billions of dollars of government subsidies, an action believed by the Fed Res to be a crucial step to insure the company’s survival. The Federal Reserve approved, by a vote of 4 to 1, GMAC’s application to transform itself into a bank holding company “in light of the unusual and exigent circumstances” affecting the financial markets. The Federal Reserve approval will allow GMAC to receive as much as $6 billion of government bailout money. The approval came as GMAC bondholders were facing a Friday, December 26, 2008, deadline to vote to approve a complex transaction that would significantly reduce the company’s outstanding debt.

GMAC has been hit with huge losses in both its mortgage and auto loan businesses.

Didn’t we tell you just a short while ago to organize your friends and become a bank to get some of that free guv’ment money? Seems somebody out there was paying attention to our advice.

Now what’s next? Could AT&T, and Verizon become bank holding companies in order to get a piece of the federal bailout rock? Stay tuned!

One of the things we enjoy the most about this time of year is Alek’s Controllable Christmas Lights. You may recall last year we told you about Alek and his lovely wife Wendy how they raise money for Celiac Disease research at the University of Maryland. They do this because they have two sons who live with the disease, a digestive disorder in which foods containing gluten cause an immune-mediated toxic reaction if eaten. The disease affects almost one percent of Americans, though it is believed to be under-diagnosed.

Over the years millions around the world have viewed the Komarnitsky’s lighting display. This year so far they count viewers from 148 countries have seen the more than twenty thousand *lights used in the displays.

*Note for the ecologically minded: The lights are wind powered and carbon neutral.

According to Alek, electronic lighting mastermind, former admitted prankster, husband to Wendy, and father of two great boys, Dirk and Kyle, who assist their father in the lighting design,; the good news is Celiac Disease is treatable when following a special diet, “…but the (gluten-free) diet is a pain in the butt.”

The great thing about this Colorado family is they help others by spreading holiday joy and raising money and awareness of this disorder while they help themselves by supporting research that will someday provide a cure so the children can eat and enjoy a not so stringent diet.

Take time to visit Alek’s site. Remember they are in Boulder, Colorado in Mountain Standard Time. If you’re on the East Coast and it’s dark at 530pm it’s still daylight in Colorado ’cause it’s only 330pm there. Have some family fun playing with the lights then make a Tax Deductible donation.

We’re sending holiday blessings along with best wishes for the season to our friends at the Love and Charity Mission in Racine, Wisconsin and Love and Charity Mission II in Memphis, Tennessee.

picture credit: Jim Bovin-Journal Sentinel, Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Mother Louis Hunter-Milligan is the founder and leader of the mission, who for more than forty years has made a positive and lasting impression upon hundreds, if not thousands of less fortunate men, women and children, people who have passed through the doors of this charitable mission.

“Mother Hunter seems to have a aura of God,” says the Reverend Dennis James Woods. Woods is the author of the griping biography “Love and Charity: the life and story of Louise Hunter and the Love and Charity Homeless Shelter”. Rev. Woods says Hunter’s whole life has been devoted to this ministry and her community; and Mother Hunter concurs: “This really is my life. It has been a blessing for me to help others,”

Mother Hunter’s energy is endless. In the late 1990s she opened a sister shelter, Love and Charity II, in Memphis, Tennessee. This legendary American humanitarian still begins her day at five o’clock in the morning—ready to greet anyone who comes to Love and Charity with a warm meal and an open heart.

We quote Mother Louise Hunter, a champion for the socially disadvantaged:

“Love and Charity is a ministry. It’s a hard ministry at times. People don’t even realize that tonight somebody is sleeping outside. Somebody’s child. So I try to do all I can.”

We encourage you to make this holiday season a blessing for the people of the Love and Charity Mission in Racine, Wisconsin by sending your contribution to:

Love and Charity Homeless Mission
1031 Douglas Avenue
Racine Wisconsin 53403
Or telephone: 262-634-7059 to offer your assistance in person to the helpers and those who benefit from the help you provide.

If you fit the following description you may be eligible to receive free money, not just regular welfare for the citizens but the corporate kind of welfare that usually means cash and a whole lot of it from the government:

American banking institutions who’s executives have mismanaged hundreds of millions of dollars in assets, perhaps billions of dollars, while foreclosing on millions of alleged homeowners, because after all who really owns the property those folks have been paying on for all those years, are receiving loads of cash for being incompetent. You, too, can receive your share of 750 Billion dollars in this latest government giveaway. There’s no oversight. No one looking over your shoulder to insure taxpayers you spend the cash the way you say you will in order to receive it. Do what you will with the money with no repercussions! You may even have an opportunity to receive even more money for past poor performance.

Last we counted the total cost to taxpayers was more than one Trillion dollars. Seems we were low balling our guess-timate. The real amount is closer to three or four Trillion dollars. UPDATE: new amount added to our already over the top national debt is upwards of eight Trillion dollars

Our plan would have worked better. If when the amount being discussed in September was 750 Billion dollars, every American man, woman and child would have received about seven thousand dollars each. Since children under the age of eighteen are minors their part would go to parents who we presume would be no better or worse decision makers than the bankers who’ve had access to far more money. In our plan the money would have gone to the people who could do the most with it to bring our national economy back to normal.

For example a family of four would have twenty-eight thousand dollars to spend as they wish. In most cases that amount would pay off credit card debt or reduce mortgage indebtedness; it could fund a college education or payoff medical expenses. It might even pay down or pay off the family car.

But no we see our hard earned tax money going to the movers, shakers and spenders on Wall Street for more extravagances like privet jet flights or expensive $500 per bottle wines or luxury spa weekends in locales many of us have never even heard of much less fantasized about.

So if you own a bank and you’ve been fortunate to survive, hurry on down to D.C. or where ever it is bank owners go. May be you should rush to the Federal Reserve Bank, which is neither federal, reserved, when it comes to your money, nor a bank but a good old boys and girls exclusive club that makes decisions about what is a bank and what is not.

Or like inner city entrepreneur role models Chewy and Cool Earl organize your friends to start a bank. They’ve organized a financial institution called Bank of The Urban Areas and they need an infusion of cash quick fast and in a hurry. Start yours today and get a piece of the cash from Washington!

Myron Rolle wants to be a professional football player, and a neurosurgeon, as well as a successful Rhodes Scholar.

Many have said Rolle is over-hyped and over-rated. Even FSU’s defensive coordinator, Mickey Andrews, last year criticized Rolle for, get this, studying too much!

On the day Rolle, a junior safety, was named a Rhodes Scholar he then joined his team after his scholarship interview to play the second half against Maryland.

Gee, Andrews, how do you feel about Rolle, his studies and his football performance now?

In our opinion he not only lives up to the title of “student-athlete” he surpasses it!

Rolle is only one of 32 students to receive the Rhodes award for 2009, and his chances of being a successful professional football player are fantastic, too!

We say have at it, Myron. Do it all! Do it ’till you’re satisfied. We wish this champion Florida State University athlete and leader in academics much success. We believe he will do it all quite well.
