Get “Fresh”: A Movement To Reform U.S. Food System
For the past year a documentary film, “Fresh”, has been making the round in communities all across the country. If you are going to be in New York City beginning April 1st 2010 you don’t want to miss “Fresh Week”.
The documentary film by Ana Sophia Joanes takes on as its subject the inferior quality of our food, and the promising features of our national food system.
The event is planned to be a week long celebration of the film, farm fresh foods, various chefs’ culinary skills, all efforts geared toward making the public aware of how we can change our food system to save our lives and the planet.
The festivities begin promptly at 6:15 PM with a B.Y.O.G (Bring Your Own Glass-$2 for a glass if you don’t bring one) event at the The Invisible Dog an art gallery on Bergen Street in Brooklyn. It’s a wine and cheese reception featuring eco-friendly cheese and carbon-neutral wines. Be on time, because Ana Sofia Joanes, the director of FRESH will be there along with live music. This event will conclude at 9:30 PM.
The Food Studies Program at The New School in conjunction with Just Food, and several other organizations associated with the food movement, will be celebrating the release of a new book Diet for a Hot Planet: The Climate Crisis at the End of Your Fork and What You Can Do About It by Anna Lappé.
In this book the author explains the connection between the global food system and climate change. Author Anna Lappé provides inspiring, thought provoking suggestions for making food choices that will support the precipitating action for changing the planetary environment for the better.
And of course there will be screenings of the movie brought to you by the people who produced Food, Inc. Be there for the film’s premiere on Wednesday, April 7 2010 at Tribeca Cinemas. That is when you’ll be able to see the documentary film that people who care about the quality of the foods they consume, as well as the future of the planet, are talking about and are encouraged to take action for change.
April 9 through April 15, 2010 the film will be shown at the Quad Cinema.
Save the planet, get better nutrition. Get Fresh!
