Happy 232nd Birthday America! July 4th 2008 Independence Day
Around the nation and the world Americans at home and away from home celebrate July 4th. Picnics, barbeques, fireworks displays a, festivals and music concerts abound as we joyously honor the day our freedom from the Brits was adopted by the colonial representatives.
It was on this date the American Declaration of Independence was adopted by the Continental Congress in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania at the historic Independence Hall.
This document announced to the world the intention of the thirteen original American colonies to separate from England. At the time the declaration was made the colonies had been at war with England for one year.
Throughout the following years this announcement has attained great symbolism for freedom. In particular President Abraham Lincoln promoted the Declaration of Independence as the ideal for which the nation should strive.Â
Thomas Jefferson, and his associate congressional colleagues were idealists for their time and indeed for all time.
Let us continue to strive to honor the desire of the signers of the document we Americans hold in high esteem.
