MALINTENT From HomeLand Security During This Holiday Travel Season
Make sure your thoughts are only the highest and the best thoughts as you travel this holiday season; especially when traveling via airports in Maryland.
Homeland Security has developed MALINTENT, an Orwellian system, coming to an airport near you, to recognize, define and measure seven of the primary emotions and emotional cues most often reflected in contractions of facial muscles. The system identifies these emotions, relays the information to a security screener in real time thus protecting you from would-be airline criminals.
The last we heard the system was put to a field test in Maryland where it scanned 144 air passengers. We do not know at which airport in Maryland the testing took place; there are several including the Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport.
We do not know if this forerunner of the system described in the sci-fi story and film starring Tom Cruise “Minority Report”- a tale about crimes people intended to commit in the future, hence the term “future crimes”, is being tested at any other airport locations.
The entire package- scanners, screeners who make up the mobile lab is call FAST for “Future Attribute Screening Technology” because its purpose is to get the get passengers through security in two to four minutes, sometimes faster. Currently all the equipment is enclosed in a mobile lab about the size of a large truck bed or trailer.
Here’s how it works. When travelers pass through the scanner if the sensors identify a problem warning data is transmitted to human analysts who decide whether or not to flag passengers for questioning. If they are detained the person gets a micro-facial scanning which measures minute muscle movement in the face for clues about mood and intention.
According to those who know a traveler who is rushing or stressed may send out signals indicating anxiety but this innovative system called FAST is good enough to tell the difference between a harried hassled traveler and a malevolent terrorist; even if you naturally perspire heavily when stressed to the max, the experts say FAST will know you are not a danger to your fellow travelers.
*wink! wink!
Project leader for MALINTENT, Bob Burns, we wonder if that’s his real name (??), says this isn’t Big Brother because the goal is to “restore a sense of freedom.” He also says once the system is operational at all American airports we could have a future where we can bring along super-sized shampoos, lotions, even water without a strong sense of future misfortune.
Or maybe not! The government, in the name of keeping us secure, is not content to render us naked when conducting the airport body scan, it must now have access to our minds in order to monitor our thoughts for our protection. Why must we endure being further demeaned in the name of the illusion of security?
We do not want a future filled with the promise of the “sense of freedom” all the while we are not really free. We want to be free.
We’ve already had eight years of the “illusion of security” courtesy BushCo. After two terms of GWB and his minions abridging our rights, usurping our freedoms, decimating the U.S. Constitution the only thing we and our children have to look forward to is a future that provides an impression of freedom rather the real thing? We understand once the peoples’ rights and powers are conceded it is extremely difficult to get them back.
How ironical! Here we are in the dawn of the 21st Century, the Philadelphia Phillies are the Major League Baseball Champions, our new president will be the first African-American to hold the office, and our government is using a system born in the science fiction plane of crime fighting with the HomeLand Securty Agency at the helm of a system named MALINTENT to give us a “sense of security”. What a country!
