The following poem was created in remembrance of the unarmed Florida teen fatally shot one year ago this month.
\nToday, February 5, 2013, would have been his eighteenth birthday…may he forever rest in peace as we continue to pray for justice in this case.<\/em><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

My tears still flow, I wonder why,
\nit had to be, that I should die?
\nHe followed me, I ran away,
\nWhat did I do? What did I say?
\n
\nWho was this man, where did he go,
\nI turned around, then I would know!
\nHe stood there, looked me in the eyes,
\nhis anger raged, to my demise.<\/p>\n

I asked him “what his problem was?’
\nhe didn’t like me, “Just Because!”
\nMy hood was up, my skin was brown,
\nnext thing I knew, I’m on the ground.<\/p>\n

I cried, I screamed, he pulled a gun,
\nI knew right then, my time was done.
\nI begged him stop, please let me live,
\nbut that’s one wish he did not give.<\/p>\n

I heard the blast, I felt the pain,
\nand as I died, I felt the rain.
\nWhat did I do? What did I say?
\nOh killer….You’ll rue the day!<\/em><\/p>\n
