The Case For Impeachment: PLAMEGATE
YouThinkWhat proudly presents another article of political opinion by Dr. C. von Blum.
History, during the hysteria focused run up to the long ill-prepared invasion of Iraq. We were prodded by concocted pseudo-intelligence implying that Iraq was actively engaged in the production of weapons of mass destruction. Pursuant to this pile of malarkey, Former ambassador Joe Wilson was dispatched to Nigeria to assess claims that Niger was supplying weapons grade yellow-cake Uranium to Iraq. Mr. Wilson found no evidence of this, and so reported in an editorial in , I believe the New York Times.
This was not precisely what the administration wanted to hear, although they could hardly have expected anything different.
Incensed by this, Cheney ordered the secret identity of Wilson’s wife, Valerie Plame, a CIA covert agent, be leaked to the press.
The order was executed by Richard Armitage, Karl Rove, and others. This is treason without ambiguity. What followed was a public airing of most of the sordid details of the pernicious act, unleashing a Department of Justice investigation into the source of the leak.
I’m sure we all recall the rhetoric from the Chimp-in-Chief that the wrongdoers would be found and would sacrifice their positions.

Much testimony was taken by the prosecutorial staff and a grand jury, which resulted in the indictment and conviction of Irwin Lewis (Scooter) Libby the vice President’s Chief of Staff, on charges of perjury and obstruction of justice.
Much speculation ensued as to whether or not the perpetrator would be pardoned.
His sentence, as you know, was commuted by the president in advance of his incarceration, but the fine ($250,000) was not rescinded, nor the provision for probation following release.
It now appears this action is out of synch with the law in this matter, since no mechanism exists for post incarceration supervision for one who has served no time. The result is Libby walks and his defense fund pays his fine. This is an impeachable offense. A wink is as good as a nod. This was a clear quid-pro-quo for keeping the secret it was the President and Vice President who had committed treason.
