The Lying Liars and The Lies They've Told Us

The drum beat grows louder everyday as the nation heads toward the culmination of more information revealed about what the president knew of the "outing" of CIA agent Valerie Plame's name and when he knew it. The American electorate grows more impatient with the president and his assistant Karl Rove. Their stories are implausible. The lies they have told the people in order to conduct a war for oil overseas, wherein thousands of young Americans have lost their lives, are being disclosed daily. Lies, which if told by any child to his parent would not be believed; yet Americans seemingly are oblivious to the blatant disrespect and the seriousness of the consequences of the untruths being told in order to enrich those who already have more than they will ever need in a lifetime.
The suspects in this case are the top two advisors to the top two men in the U.S. government.

Rove, Karl C (the President’s chief advisor and #1 usual suspect)- Assistant to the President, Deputy Chief of Staff and Senior Advisor earns a paltry $161,000 annual salary. (If you believe that is all he is relying on for his multi billion dollar deals to multi-nationals I have some prime real estate to sell you in Somalia.) Rove is the acknowledged architect of the President's rise from money losing baseball owner to leader of the free world. Adding to his illustrious career accomplishments, Rove, Bush’s chief political guru, formerly worked for the elder Bush, George Herbert Walker Bush, and was fired for the exact same offense: leaking confidential information to the news media-specifically Robert Novak! The elder Bush had the good sense and integrity to fire him for his indiscretions. Too bad W’s policy is either “try try again”, or “practice makes perfect”.

This time around it has been disclosed that Karl Rove talked about undercover CIA officer Valerie Plame with two reporters who later published her identity and outed her. Rove has repeatedly been summoned by the prosecutor to answer additional questions. (Plame is the wife of former U.S. ambassador Joseph Wilson a harsh critic of the Bush administration’s policy in Iraq.)

Libby, I Lewis- (Assistant to the President, and Chief of Staff to the Vice President and 2nd usual suspect), $161,000 annual salary. Libby, known also as “Scooter”—whenever I hear his name I think he’s called “Scooter” because he likes to ride a scooter up and down the White House halls, is known to have had at least 3 conversations with New York Times reporter Judith Miller about Joseph Wilson, a former U.S. ambassador, and his wife Valerie Plame, who Libby repeatedly stated was an undercover C.I.A. agent. Wilson attracted the White House's ire in 2003 for saying the administration had manipulated prewar intelligence on Iraq. This is apparently the administration’s idea of revenge.
It is considerably appalling the top two advisors to the top two men in the Free World appear guilty of lying, manipulating the facts and the truth and are so vindictive they would actually endanger the life of one of their country’s own agents.

The White House two years ago strongly denied that Rove and Libby leaked the identity of Wilson's wife. Bush pledged to fire anyone who did. As the evidence has emerged, the strategy has changed.
Bush now says he will fire the individuals leaking the information only if the person leaking the information committed a crime. Lawyers no longer deny that their clients discussed the identity of Wilson's wife with reporters. Instead, the lawyers are trying to make the case that exposing her covert status was inadvertent and not part of a conspiracy, and in any event didn’t matter. Not in Bushland where apparently it is considered common innocuous practice to expose undercover secret agents who are the wives of diplomats who disagree with you.
"They are good individuals," (if good individuals includes people who will lie and scheme to deceive the public and endanger the lives of thousands of young men and women, as well as the life of any secret agent whose husband dares disagree with you) White House spokesman Scott McClellan said of Rove and Libby on Oct. 7, 2003, when asked whether they had leaked the identity of Wilson's wife. "They are important-- (what has this got to do with anything) members of our White House team. And that's why I spoke with them, so that I could come back to you and say that they were not involved.” (Even though they were!)

Judith Miller, reporter for The New York Times,ex-con spent three months in jail in order to protect her "source"; self described as Miss Run Amok salary unknown, but we suspect she gets paid the really big bucks even if she is the “Queen of Misinformation”.
Robert Novak, reporter for Chicago Sun Times and popular television news show guest who walked off the set of a FOX News taping this past summer rather than answer questions.
Both reporters have been at the heart of the administration’s war disinformation campaign.
George Walker Bush, President of the United States, a multi-millionaire- trivial salary of $250,000 annually, plus perks, dispensing multi billion contracts for implied future rewards.

Richard (Dick) Cheney, Vice President of the United States, still working for Halliburton one of the largest recipients of these multi-billion contracts, still under contract and being paid by Halliburton, although his salary is currently being deferred until he is no longer vice-president. Yes, he is really suffering for the good of his country. All
Together these two have indicated their ability to manipulate and callous indifference to manipulating the minds of millions of citizens into thinking “Up is down” and vice versa. They have managed to sell a war for oil, enriching their cronies and promising future paybacks.

These are the worthy individuals who currently rule our country. Marie Antoinette where are you when we need you to set a good example in wanton waste? These exemplary individuals have convinced the general public that sending “good paying” jobs overseas is a good thing for Americans; that gasoline prices must be high; that sacrifice during an armed conflict is bad; that tax cuts for the wealthy are good.

And most important is Self Interest. Their own Self Interest most important of all, and the rest of the world be damned. We can imagine them paraphrasing Rhett Butler, author Margaret Mitchell's character in the great American Civil War novel "Gone With the Wind", when replying to accusations of self-serving, reckless spending and personal endangerment and impoverishment of others, in order to amass more wealth for themselves and their cronies, saying, "Frankly, my dears, we don’t give a damn!"

Now for the Medals of Honor.
