Paris Hilton: The Saga Continues The Heiress Returns to Parents' Home

Paris Hilton, the Hilton Hotel heiress, the symbol of wealthy excess, and now known as a former convict, has been released from jail after serving 23 days of imprisonment. Hilton, who joins the ranks of contemporary celebrity ex-cons such as her peers, L'il Kim, and a host of rappers, as well as the poster woman for WASPs, Martha Stewart was escorted by her parents, Kathy and Rick Hilton, to a posh Hilton family home in the exclusive enclave of Bel-Air in the Hollywood Hills.

Paris Hilton served three weeks in jail for violating probation in a drunk-driving case. This justice system odyssey began on September 7, 2006, when she failed a sobriety test after police saw her weaving down a street in her car on what she said was a late-night run to a hamburger stand.

She pleaded no contest to reckless driving and was sentenced to 36 months' probation, alcohol education and $1,500 in fines.

In the months that followed, she was stopped twice by officers who discovered her driving with a suspended license. The second stop landed her in Superior Court Judge Michael T. Sauer's courtroom, where he sentenced her to 45-days in jail. After 3 days she was released to home confinement by Sheriff Lee Baca for a baffling medical condition he later described as psychological. The following day Judge Sauer called Hilton back into court, ordered she be returned to jail. The judge said he had not sanctioned her release.

Hilton was mostly confined to a solitary cell in the special needs unit away from the other 2,200 inmates. At least one person has filed a claim against the county alleging she "had serious medical issues" but was not treated as well as Hilton.
An exhaustive study of similar cases conducted by The Los Angeles Times indicated Hilton was being treated unusually severely, receiving a much longer jail sentence than normal.

Today she was released after three weeks for reasons including good behavior.

According to the city attorney's office Hilton will complete her probation in March 2009 as long as she keeps her driver's license current and doesn't break any laws. She can reduce that time by 12 months if she does community service that could include a public-service announcement.

The 26-year-old celebutante, that means she's a debutante who is also a celebrity, has put her incarceration in the Los Angeles County jail, known as the Century Regional Detention Facility, behind her to return to what she is best knwon for...no not a sex video. Hilton will give her first post jail interview to Larry King on CNN on Wednesday evening, Juune 27, 2007. check your local listings for time and channel.

"She fulfilled her debt. She was obviously in good spirits. She thanked people as she left," - sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore.
