Greg Smith: Goldman Sachs Financial World’s Little (Big) Piggies

Mar 25, 2012 in Banking/Finance, Communications, mental health

Nearly two years ago we told you how  the once venerated Goldman Sachs Group, a full-service global investment banking and securities firm, is comprised of a bunch of piggies…greedy, smack-talking piggies.  We even told you how their behavior reminds us of the Beatles’ tune, penned by the late George Harrison, about greedy little piggies.

Earlier this month, Greg Smith, in his role as New York Times Op-Ed contributor, very publicly announced to the world, and his employer, Goldman Sachs,  he is leaving and his reasons why. We took to the article, authored by a financial insider, as confirmation of what we knew to be true and published in 2010. (more…)

Newspaper Guild Greater Philadelphia To Fight Layoffs of Philadelphia Journalists

Mar 16, 2012 in Business, Civil Rights, Communications

The  Newspaper Guild of Greater Philadelphia, Local 38010 of the Newspaper Guild-Communications Workers of America, AFL-CIO, CLC, plans to fight layoffs of 19 Philadelphia journalists, after 21 take buyouts offered by Philadelphia Media Network, (PMN) owner of the Philadelphia Inquirer, Daily News and Philly.com.

Photojournalist Sarah Glover decided to take the buyout rather than being laid off. Glover is president of the Philadelphia Association of Black Journalists. In a note to Facebook friends she stated her concern that “by the end of the staff reduction process at PMN this week that the newsrooms will take another step back to looking like 1962 rather than more like what a newsroom should look like in 2012.” (more…)

What Sandra Fluke REALLY Said To The Democrats

Mar 05, 2012 in Business, Communications, Health Care Matters

You may be, like our staff at YouThinkWhat, wondering just what it is Sandra Fluke actually said to cause the fat windbag guy on the radio to call her out of her name.

According to Charlie Spiering of the Washington Examiner.com this is the text of Sandra Fluke’s opening statement, given when she testified before a House Democratic panel in support of the HHS contraception mandate.

My name is Sandra Fluke, and I’m a third-year student at Georgetown Law School. I’m also a past-president of Georgetown Law Students for Reproductive Justice or LSRJ. And I’d like to acknowledge my fellow LSRJ members and allies and all of the student activists with us and thank them so much for being here today.

    (Applause)

We, as Georgetown LSRJ, are here today because we’re so grateful that this regulation implements the non-partisan medical advice of the Institute of Medicine.

I attend a Jesuit law school that does not provide contraceptive coverage in its student health plan. And just as we students have faced financial, emotional, and medical burdens as a result, employees at religiously-affiliated hospitals and institutions and universities across the country have suffered similar burdens.

We are all grateful for the new regulation that will meet the critical health care needs of so many women. (more…)

Carole Simpson Reacts To Limbaugh’s Venemous Attack on Women

Mar 03, 2012 in Business, Civil Rights, Communications, US Politics

Carole Simpson, broadcast journalist, news anchor, and author, has written a piece, her reaction, to the latest foot-in-really-big-mouth controversy involving radio’s popular windbag, Rush Limbaugh.

From Carole’s blog, a post dated March 2, 2012, “Limbaugh Wages New War On Women”:

Rush Limbaugh, a blowhard who has been going too far, for far too long, has now made it abundantly clear that he hates women. America’s highest rated and highest paid radio broadcaster is a dangerous misogynist. (more…)

    Occupy Wall Street Survey

Oct 28, 2011 in Banking/Finance, Business, Civil Rights, Communications, US Politics

As the movement to demonstrate utter dissatisfaction with the behavior and lack of response to the publics’ demands grows around the world we’ve found an Occupy Wall Street survey.

We suggest you take time to complete the survey found here. When you do you’ll be able to see the issues most important to those who are protesting in cities across this nation as well as to those who support their actions.

BTW… in light of the continuing and escalating violence on behalf of those who have the most to lose from the success of the protests on Wall Street, in New York City, Washington, D.C. along with big and small towns around the United States, we suggest the organizers of Occupy Wall Street demonstrations plan a day of national strike. Implementation of the idea is past overdue…so how about it? A day where everyone who works stays home…a day when everyone who shops makes no purchases; or everyone who uses transportation, personal or public, stays home. No banking, no school, no emergency medical services, no utility services. Everyone stay home, on the same day for one day. We guarantee someone among the so-called movers and shakers will be paying attention.

Be sensible…stay warm this winter, do not put your physical body in harm’s way…stay home to protest against the banksters, and the corporate scions.

What To Consider When Buying Two Way Radios

    Aug 05, 2011 in Communications

All around us, there are several manners of communication. Cell phones are attached to hips everywhere and the internet provides immediate access to email and instant messaging with a few mouse clicks. As technologically advanced as communication has become, two way radios are still quite popular devices used to talk to others. Their services are employed on construction sites and even by family members who wish to maintain a line of communication if needed while a short distance away from one another. Following is a guide for buyers interested in two way radios.

For an operation such as a construction project, two way radios that offer several channels are effective. Because there are several distinct frequencies to choose from, crew members do not have to worry about talking over each other and cutting off conversations of members on different teams. Conventional two way radios that operate on designated RF channels are often employed in these situations. These models feature toggle switches and dials that allow the user to choose a frequency that select other radios are tuned to. For example, the members of the digging team will use a certain frequency, while the members of the building team use another.

Crews and other businesses that operate in similar situations might look toward trunked two-way radios. Radios of this type automatically select a channel when certain protocol is met and join the selected conversation. In this setup, a control channel sends out a signal that the individual radios pick up on and communicate on when desired. It is the entire group of radios that makes up the network, and the electronic chips inside initiate the conversation.

Families also benefit from two way radios. When members are in rooms not adjacent to one another or even when traveling in separate cars, they may want to be able to talk to each other in case of emergency or if a question arises. Analog two way radios are fine for these situations. They are not digital, so multiple conversations are not possible. In this case, it is not a problem because only two people will be talking at once. Push-to-talk radios experienced a boom in sales when the major cellular companies promoted their use. By pressing a rocker switch, a chirp is emitted that indicates a channel is open and available for conversation.

Several types of two way radios exist for many occasions. Whichever you choose is dependent upon its features and your needs. Crews on a construction project will need more elaborate models than a husband and wife talking in nearby vehicles. With some shopping around, you will certainly locate a radio that does what you need it to do.

Now Try – Two Way Radios
