May 21, 2009 in Democrats, Republicans, Volusia County Politics, We Think

Watch this video of Stephen Colbert, of Comedy Central’s “The Colbert Report”, pronounced Col-bear Ree-poorh, as he takes comedic umbrage with the decision of the venerable newspaper The Philadelphia Inquirer for its decision to hireĀ  John Yoo, the architect of the Bush administration’s torture policy, to write a monthly column. Volusia County Council and Local Mayors: Show Them Some Appreciation

Apr 01, 2009 in Volusia County Politics, We Think

In the previous post we told you about Monday night’s F.A.I.T.H. Action Assembly meeting in Daytona Beach.

In that post we encouraged you to contact the representatives who were not present to ask them what their position is on issues of county community concern such as employment, affordable housing, childcare, crime illegal use of drugs and the incarceration of the mentally ill in the county prison facility.

It occurred to us we should give out a few “at-a-boys” to the members of the Volusia County CouncilĀ  and to the mayors from the cities in Volusia County who took the time to be present at that important assembly on Monday evening. (more…)

Daytona Beach Florida King Birthday Celebration Ecumenical NOT Interfaith

Jan 30, 2009 in Volusia County Politics, We Think

A report from Clark Dark’s mom, Blanche Africa Reilly Dark on her experience of Martin Luther King’s Birthday celebration in Daytona Beach, Florida.

I had the pleasure of being in central Florida during the days leading up to the historic inauguration of President Barack Obama. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. who would have been eighty years-old.

I was invited by friends to join members of the Daytona Beach community at a breakfast, march and church service sponsored by the good people of the Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church where Father Phil Egitto is the pastor. (more…)

Josh Wagner Winner Volusia County Council District 2

Nov 16, 2008 in Education, Volusia County Politics

CONGRATULATIONS! It’s official. The winner of the local Volusia County Florida District 2 contest between neophyte Josh Wagner and incumbent (soon-to-be-former) Ponce Inlet mayor, Nancy Epps for the Volusia County Council District 2 seat is our choice Josh Wagner. We look forward to having Josh Wagner, who is an accomplished attorney, represent us on the Volusia County Florida Council.

We also say a hearty congratulations to Tony Goudie the newly elected mayor of Ponce Inlet, Florida. We’re happy our own highlander will be leading the town and its council to maintaining the cozy small town feel of our precious historic location while bringing us into the 21st Century.

We wish much success to our choices of winning candidates.
