Obama Inauguration To Be Seen In 27 U.S. Theaters

Jan 13, 2009 in Business, Communications

According to reports from New York City President-elect Barack Obama is on his way to the big screen, thanks to a deal between MSNBC and Screenvision that will put the news channel’s inaugural coverage in 27 theaters around the country.

Free tickets are being handed out via MSNBC.com to see the inauguration and parade from 11 a.m.-3:30 p.m. ET at the 27 theaters run by 11 exhibitor partners in 21 markets. Midday Tuesday isn’t necessarily a big movie time, so it helps to fill the theater — and boost popcorn and soda sales — at a time when it’s not usually busy. (more…)

Fare Thee Well George Walker Bush

Jan 13, 2009 in Business, We Think

Lately we have seen and heard much about the final days of the Bush administration. We have been told by the spinmeisters that the current president, George Walker Bush, is a good deal smarter than we know.  We are told he reads several books a year. In fact he confirmed he will be writing a book. Imagine the number of jokes that can be made from that announcement alone. He gives nicknames to staffers and cabinet members. We are told he’s caring and compassionate. He’s just a regular elitist rich guy. (more…)

For Rev. Rick Warren: What Would Jesus Do?

Jan 06, 2009 in We Think

Much controversy continues to surround president-elect Barack Obama’s choice of Rev. Rick Warren to give the invocation at his upcoming inaugural ceremony on January 20, 2009.

Warren is very popular among the Christian right. He is the California mega-church, anti-gay marriage pastor, who during the campaign last fall held a meeting at the Saddleback church which featured the Republican candidate and President-elect Obama. (more…)

    No More Support For Israel

Jan 01, 2009 in We Think

We agree with the writer, “Chilean Jew” at the Daily Kos who said on Sunday, December 28, 2008, “Today I end my support of Israel.” There are many Americans, as individuals and as organizations, who support Israel. A few of the groups and individuals who provide funding to Israel are not Jewish or Zionist organizations. We are not Zionists. We can not continue to support a country unwilling to grant self-determination to a neighboring people. We’re done tolerating the slaughter, the murders and barbaric occupation of an impoverished people, the utter disregard for human life. (more…)

NYT Sends Girly Men To Interview Caroline Kennedy

Dec 29, 2008 in We Think

We believe someone at the New York Times made a grave error when they selected Nicholas Confessore, (NC) and David Halbfinger, (DH) to interview Caroline Kennedy, the daughter of the late president, about her interest in being appointed to the soon to be vacant senatorial seat for the great state of New York.

Not only did they wrongly conclude that Kennedy is, “less of a candidate than the idea of one” but they themselves did little to impress the attorney and mother of three. We read the interview. NYT should have sent some real men to interview Kennedy. (more…)

    Merry Christmas 2008

Dec 25, 2008 in We Think

Merry Christmas to everyone around the world.2008-xmas-capital

At this time of year there is much talk about a star. We turn our eyes toward the heavens.

Here is Robert Frost’s poem about a star.

    CHOOSE SOMETHING LIKE A STAR

O Star (the fairest one in sight),
We grant your loftiness the right
To some obscurity of cloud –
It will not do to say of night,
Since dark is what brings out your light. (more…)

    Bernie Madoff Swindle Affects ACLU

Dec 23, 2008 in We Think

The Bernie Madoff Ponzi scheme of $50 Billion has adversely affected two foundations that have been generous,  longstanding supporters of the national security and reproductive freedom work  performed by the American Civil Liberties Union. The two foundations have been damaged by the Madoff scandal — forced to close their doors and terminate their grants. (more…)
