Mother Louis Hunter-Milligan is the founder and leader of the mission, who for more than forty years has made a positive and lasting impression upon hundreds, if not thousands of less fortunate men, women and children, people who have passed through the doors of this charitable mission.
“Mother Hunter seems to have a aura of God,” says the Reverend Dennis James Woods. Woods is the author of the griping biography “Love and Charity: the life and story of Louise Hunter and the Love and Charity Homeless Shelter”. Rev. Woods says Hunter’s whole life has been devoted to this ministry and her community; and Mother Hunter concurs: “This really is my life. It has been a blessing for me to help others,”
Mother Hunter’s energy is endless. In the late 1990s she opened a sister shelter, Love and Charity II, in Memphis, Tennessee. This legendary American humanitarian still begins her day at five o’clock in the morning—ready to greet anyone who comes to Love and Charity with a warm meal and an open heart.
We quote Mother Louise Hunter, a champion for the socially disadvantaged:
“Love and Charity is a ministry. It’s a hard ministry at times. People don’t even realize that tonight somebody is sleeping outside. Somebody’s child. So I try to do all I can.”
