Serena Williams Bests Venus Williams At Wimbledon
Serena Williams has captured another coveted tennis Grand Slam award. We know who the best woman in tennis is, and her last name is Williams.
Serena Williams won a match in which she was facing her older sister, five time Wimbledon Champion, Venus Williams, who is the only other woman who can equal her power and court coverage on grass courts When asked if it’s easier or harder to lose to her sibling, Venus Williams said, “There’s no ‘easy’ to losing, especially when it’s so close to the crown.”
Serena has won three of the past four Grand Slam titles.
Richard Williams, father and coach of the tennis champs, has said his youngest daughter, Serena, would be the better of the two. We’ve checked the stats and found Serena leads in Grand Slam titles (11-7), in head-to-head matches (11-10), and in all-Williams major finals (6-2).
This was the 14th Grand Slam final for each of the Williams sisters; no other active woman participated in more than four. Serena is 11-3 in such matches; Venus fell to 7-7, with all but one defeat coming against her sister.
Some in tennis circles are critical saying their dominance of the sport is boring. The game lacks excitement because they’re always playing each other.
We say the Champion Williams Sisters are the athletes who make the game exciting. We love Venus and Serena. Congratulations to them both for their athletic achievements.
