Dec 22, 2008 in We Think

For the one person in your circle of friends who doesn’t believe driving drunk is dangerous a new accessory for the iPod or iPhone was designed to help that person make the decision whether or not to drive after downing a few cocktails or beers at the office holiday party, before climbing behind the wheel.

Alek Komarnitsky’s Controllable Christmas Lights for Celiac Disease

Dec 22, 2008 in We Think

One of the things we enjoy the most about this time of year is Alek’s Controllable Christmas Lights. You may recall last year we told you about Alek and his lovely wife Wendy how they raise money for Celiac Disease research at the University of Maryland. They do this because they have two sons who live with the disease,  a digestive disorder in which foods containing gluten cause an immune-mediated toxic reaction if eaten. The disease affects almost one percent of Americans, though it is believed to be under-diagnosed.

Over the years millions around the world have viewed the Komarnitsky’s lighting display. This year so far  they count viewers from 148 countries have seen the more than twenty thousand *lights used in the displays.

*Note for the ecologically minded: The lights are wind powered and carbon neutral.

Architect of Rwandan Massacre Convicted Of Genocide Receives Life Sentence

Dec 18, 2008 in Justice, We Think

Widely circulating reports from Arusha, Tanzania  say a former Rwandan Army official who planned and executed the 1994 slaughter of more than 500,000 people was convicted of genocide today. The high ranking military officer is sentenced to life in prison. Experts say this is the most significant verdict of a U.N. tribunal set up to bring the killers to justice.

The court  said Col. Theoneste Bagosora used his position as director of Rwanda’s Ministry of Defense to direct Hutu soldiers to kill Tutsis and moderate Hutus thus finding him  guilty of crimes against humanity.
See the 2004 historical drama film “Hotel Rwanda” starring Don Cheadle as Paul Rusesabagina the heroic hotel manager who saved more than 1,200 lives during the conflict.

There is great significance in the capture, trial and conviction of another deadly brutal megalomaniac. It has been proven Theoneste Bagosora is indeed accountable for his crimes. This verdict has even more significance for the people of the United States in light of the recent disclosures made by Vice President Cheney and President Bush in their recent television exit interviews. Florida Governor Crist Marries Socialite Carole Rome

Dec 16, 2008 in We Think

For the first time in 42 years a sitting governor of the great state of Florida got married.

On, Friday, December 12, 2008 in an early evening ceremony in St. Petersburg, Florida  Republican governor Charles Crist exchanged vows with socialite millionaire Carole Rome. Crist promised to love, cherish and honor his new wife,  the president of her family’s Halloween costume company,  in the presence of family, friends and political associates at the First United Methodist Church.

This is the second marriage for both the governor and the former Ms Rome.

While invited guests helped the newly weds celebrate their union,  a few protesters organized by Impact Florida gathered in the park across the street from the  church to demonstrate their displeasure with the fact gays in Florida can not enjoy the same freedom to marry the one they love.

Iraqi Reporter Tosses Shoes At U.S. President Bush

Dec 14, 2008 in We Think

An Iraqi news reporter tossed two shoes at American President George W. Bush during a news conference during his most recent secret trip to Iraq.

We believe no insult was intended, even though security dragged the reporter away. We think it’s cultural; a different way of saying good-bye to a beloved dignitary.
