FOX News Obama Baby Momma Caption Causes Much Camflamma
Let cooler heads prevail as once again members of the voting public are drawn into another in a series of non-political issues.
Recently FOX News broadcast a news story with video of Michelle Obama, whom many believe will be the next First Lady of the land; and the on screen caption describing her in terms some believe unbefitting to a lady of her stature.
That FOX News, the extremely unfair and very unbalanced cable news outlet, has seized upon the trite and tacky phrase does not come as any surprise. We think any quick thinking junior high school student, meaning the producers and editors of the news channel are just that juvenile in their decision making, would have known better. In our opinion the only reason for Fox to use such a term was to insinuate that perhaps the Obamas really weren’t married catering to the small minded prejudice of certain white people in their viewing audience who don’t believe black people ever marry.
Truth be known many blacks and other minorities are very conservative when it comes to being married. Some black people have been known to tie the knot even while the mother to be is in labor or in the delivery room rather than let their child be born out of wedlock.
We resent FOX News’ attempt to denigrate the possible future First Lady by pandering to the bigotry of some people’s prejudice when FOX News clearly knows better. Has anyone ever heard Laura Bush called Bush’s baby’s momma? Of course not. There is no excuse for this.
And before anyone tries to use the “defense” Michelle Obama herself called Barack her “baby’s daddy”. There is an old saying, “I can talk about my family, but you can’t” And this is a saying that white people know and use too.
Now about that impending video compilation of Michelle Obama’s so called unpatriotic remarks. The problem of late with this country is anyone who makes any comment about our country with the desire to improve it is immediately labeled and considered unpatriotic. This is how we got the current atrocity of Bush and crew. Since to criticize or disagree is to be considered unpatriotic, instead we have war mongers and torturers in power; and to disagree or even state the truth or facts about that is to be considered un-American and un-patriotic. What is so patriotic or so very American about a president who defends the right to torture? I thought that was something that only happens in other terrible countries, not in America. Is that the kind of America we want?
There is nothing wrong with wanting a better fairer country and a better fairer lot for your people or group. There are many people, Native American, Black, White, Hispanic, Asian, Elderly and others who share Michelle Obama’s desire for a better America.
The times have been rare during the history of blacks in America when we could really feel we were getting a fair deal.
Do you really think it was an accident most of the people left behind in New Orleans were black? If blacks and whites are equal how is it mainly only the blacks were left behind? You say it wasn’t the blacks but the poor. Then how it it only the blacks are poor? The injustices of slavery and second class citizenship have never really departed.
The times have been rare during the last eight years where any of us could walk around with heads held high.
Now for the first time it appears our country may finally live up to the promise of black equality made more than one hundred years ago. It is gratifying after one hundred-forty-three years to finally look forward to that. How many white people would be satisfied if there had never been a white president?
For those of you who were absent when the history lesson was taught, albeit truncated and somewhat abridged, many of those who supported abolition were not entirely favorable to integration. In fact, especially after the massacres of the War Between The States, many Northern whites preferred their Southern white brothers and were perfectly willing to assuage their hurt feelings–both emotional and economical, than insist on the barbaric injustice and inhumanity of past slavery.
Better to shrug it off and pretend it wasn’t the Southern white’s fault, to pretend that somehow it was the fault of the black men and women, who were formerly slaves, as if they had insisted on being slaves after emigrating to America on slave boats to be sold; and now they were ungrateful about it. The ingratitude and temerity of these people.
Black people, former slaves, became the reason for every trouble the formerly rich white landowners faced. The victim became the source of all problems. The abused were the instigators of the abuse.
“Black people got a lot of gall causing so much fuss after we gave them all that free luxury cruise from West Africa.”
“You know it’s hot down here in the south. Too hot for white people to actually work out in the sun. But those colored people they just love to spend the whole day out in the cotton field picking cotton. They love it so much that if we had not sent the ships they would have walked across the ocean just for the opportunity to pick some cotton and be abused and treated like a farm animal.”
None of the political parties, major or minor, has ever been “real” about dealing with the “black problem” in America.
We applaud the fact we’re getting a tiny bit closer to being considered equal. We’ve moved from the symbolism of the promissory note used by the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr, in the speech known for his dream, wherein he also said the note was “returned marked ‘Insufficient Funds’ “, meaning the promise of justice and equality was never delivered or fulfilled or even given lip service.
With the first opportunity for a black man to finally become president, we believe we may finally move forward to a time–no, that note will never actually be “Paid In Full”, but maybe we can move forward to a time where we can move past that, move forward to a time when black people really are equal beginning perhaps with the successful campaign for the presidency bySenator Barack Obama. We can hope as we dream.
