Tim Russert NBC Host “Meet The Press” Dead

Tim Russert the host of NBC News’ “Meet the Press” died Friday afternoon in his Washington, D.C. office. He was 58. Though the cause of death is undisclosed at this time, it is believed he died of a heart attack.
Some would describe Russert, who joined NBC after working for New York Senator, the late Daniel Patrick Moynihan, and later for former New York governor Mario Cuomo, as an operative for the Democrats in an era when Republicans, conservatives, neo-cons and moderates, were the greatest influence on the news media.
Russert began employment with NBC first as commentator on the Today Show and Nightly News, then Washington news bureau chief and then in 1991 the additional duty of serving as the host of the long running Sunday morning interview program. It is said he hosted the program longer than anyone.
Tim Russert is survived by his wife Maureen Orth, a writer for Vanity Fair; their son Luke, a recent Boston College graduate and Russert’s father, Tim Russert, Sr., who according to reports was placed in a nursing facility earlier this week. Reports also indicate the family had recently returned from a trip to Italy to celebrate Luke’s college graduation.
Russert has often been called “one of the premier political analysts and journalists of his time” because of his aggressive pointed style of questioning guests.
His colleague, former news anchor, Tom Brokaw when announcing Russert’s death said,”He worked to the point of exhaustion so many weeks. This news division will not be the same without his strong, clear voice.”
