Jack Mac to Florida Governor Charlie Crist: Sorry Charlie
All this attention being given to Sarah Palin leaves us to wonder, “What about Charlie Crist?” “What will he do come the spring of 2009?” “Will he marry or not? Was it a set up to try to get a gig as veep?”
As you may recall the Florida governor announced his engagement during the summer, we believe, in hopes of being Jack Mac’s choice for position number two on the Republican presidential ticket.
We predict the marriage will not take place. We are expecting to hear the couple has broken the engagement and they’ve canceled the wedding.
As Bill Shakespeare would say, “Alas and alack” Charlie received his “Sorry Charlie” notice when it was announced the governor of Alaska would fit very nicely, albeit controversially, into the second slot on the GOP ticket.
That’s not to say Governor Crist is without controversy. Crist was once married to a woman. He’s been engaged a couple of times to women. His seemingly confirmed bachelorhood and the fact he is fastidious in his haberdashery has come under scrutiny. Even his announced engagement was not taken seriously. For many journalistic wags and Internet bloggers seem to think Crist is part of the Larry Craig wing, you remember the Republican from Idaho caught in the Minnesota airport men’s room sex sting; of the Log Cabin Republicans. Craig had been accused of being gay when he was a congressional representative years ago. The charge followed him to his senate career.
The gay Republicans, yes, Virginia there are gays in the Republican party; call themselves Log Cabin Republicans because “the first Republican President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln, who was born in a Log Cabin. President Lincoln built the Republican Party on the principles of liberty and equality. The party should return to its roots. When the organization was founded, the name, ‘Lincoln Club’ was already taken by another GOP group, so organizers settled on the name Log Cabin Republicans.”
Word on the street is the Log Cabin gays’ agenda does not suit Jack Mac. He opposes the very ideas they advocate. Ideas and proposals such as gay adoption of orphans, gay and lesbian rights,
gay marriages and civil unions. John McCain does support the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy.
The buzz around the nation is also that the Log Cabin crew really loves Sarah Pallin, despite the fact she stated in 2006 while campaigning for the office she now holds, she would support a ballot question that would deny benefits to homosexual couples. “I believe that honoring the family structure is that important.†Stay tuned. This party is just gettin’ started.
