James Baldwin: What Societies Really Want
We came across an interesting quote by the late American novelist, writer, playwright, poet, essayist and civil rights activist James Baldwin.
“What societies really, ideally, want is a citizenry which will simply obey the rules of society.
If a society succeeds in this, that society is about to perish.”
James Baldwin, “A Talk to Teachers,” 1963
According to data found at Wikipedia
…..” most of Baldwin’s work deals with racial and sexual issues in the mid-20th century in the United States. His novels are notable for the personal way in which they explore questions of identity as well as the way in which they mine complex social and psychological pressures related to being black and homosexual well before the social, cultural or political equality of these groups was improved.”
We thought we’d share it with our readers. It’s thought provoking. It is one man’s opinion.
