JMack Is No Maverick Say Descendants Of Samuel Maverick
These Mavericks don’t like the idea of the Republican candidate for president and his running mate using their name and trying to be “maverick-y ”
Samuel Augustus Maverick was an influential Texas cattleman who lived from 1803 until 1870 was known in Texas history as a land owner, a politician, and a signer of the Texas Declaration of Independence.
The progeny of Maverick say John MCcain the Republican candidate for POTUS is no Maverick.
You see maverick is the term used to describe unbranded cattle. Sam accepted some cattle in exchange for a debt owed to him. He put them on a island off the Texas coast and there they were allowed to roam without a brand. Later Sam Maverick used the same technique to claim unbranded cattle as his own.
Sam Maverick’s descendant children say the term came into use during the 1860s to describe anyone with an independent streak, someone not branded. John McCain wears the brand of the GOP.
Fontaine Maverick, great-great-granddaughter who is featured along with other Maverick family members in a Brave New Films documentary explains:
“Mavericks believe everybody has a right to be in America so long as they obey the law. Grandfather Maury was no coward. He chased the Klan right out of San Antonio once, stood up to the mob… Maury was burned in effigy in San Antonio, for his defense of members of the Communist Party’s right to assemble, for his defense of the Hispanic community, support for those who didn’t have a voice. ”
Nope that does not sound like John McCain to us. It may sound a little like the John McCain Campaign Version Year 2000.
