La Donna Bradford and Darnell Suggs Wed On Today Show
The former LaDonna Bradford and her groom Darnell Suggs, both of Atlanta, Georgia, were married on Wednesday, June 25, 2008, on a live television broadcast seen around the nation and the world on NBC’s TODAY Show program.

With Darnell Suggs waiting at the altar, LaDonna Bradford his soon to be bride, walked down to “At Last†by Etta James. The couple exchanged heartfelt, emotional vows, with Darnell promising to “go to the ends of the earth†to see LaDonna smile, hear her laugh, hold her tenderly, and ease her fears. He called his bride his “best friend, confidante … the love of my life.â€
Acknowledging her father’s absence, LaDonna said she knew he was “smiling from above†as her grandfather gave her hand away in marriage to Darnell. LaDonna vowed to look forward to her tomorrows, “knowing we will walk it together side by side, hand in hand, and heart to heart.â€
The newlywed couple who met in Boston during an employment conference, became engaged to marry during a trip in January to Egypt.
Both are well educated young people. Darnell is a computer engineer and LaDonna is a nuclear power plant inspector. It is the first marriage for both.
LaDonna and Darnell are the winning couple of this year’s TODAY Show Race To The Altar competition in which they beat out four other couples to receive the grand prize to exchange their vows live on Rockefeller Plaza.
It is traditional for TODAY viewers to plan the finalists’ wedding by voting on TODAYShow.com. With viewer participation, the couple and their guests enjoyed an “East Meets West†themed wedding. The bride was resplendent in a strapless silk dress by Priscilla of Boston; the groom and the groomsmen wore formal navy attire by Hugo Boss, the bridesmaids were adorned in classic, pink Simple Silhouettes dresses.
The families of both the bride and groom were present on the plaza, with the ceremony conducted by LaDonna’s pastor, Willie Butler, who has known her since she was just a little girl. Reverend Butler baptized her as well as presided over her father’s funeral. Butler during the ceremony said LaDonna has grown into an “elegant, articulate and smart woman,†and he believes the two are the “perfect match.â€

Following the outdoor ceremony, the wedding party proceeded to the Rainbow Room, where they were serenaded by a surprise celebrity guest — LaDonna’s cousin, Melinda Doolittle from “American Idol.”
The newlyweds are enjoying viewers’ chosen honeymoon — Bora Bora. They will start their South Pacific honeymoon at the new St. Regis Bora Bora Resort, where they will stay in a private deluxe villa with their own personal butler. During their trip, the newlyweds will enjoy deep sea fishing, fine dining at the resort signature Jean-Georges restaurant, a day on a private island and five days on an exclusive private yacht.
