Sandusky, Ohio Firefighter May Lose Job For Death Threats
Last year firefighter Todd Schoen, in the presence of his peers and supervisors, allegedly made death threats against the life of the fire Chief Mike Meinzer. He was summarily brought up on charges for those comments. You would think this guy would be the villain in this story, but not in Sandusky, Ohio, which is now equivalent to alternate world. You know like in the comic books. There’s a place somewhere in the universe where everything looks similar to this world but it’s really the opposite or an alternate reality. That place ladies and gentlemen is Sandusky, Ohio. Estimated population 27, 000 Buckeyes. that’s what people from Ohio are called.
The supervisor who reported Schoen’s inappropriate behavior Harold Roane has been made the bad guy by several co-workers and city politicians.
You see Roane, a 29 year veteran of the department and a Lieutenant who supervises Schoen , brought to light a patter of abuse and lax discipline in the department. For several years it had been unofficially noted but mostly ignored by authorities Schoen has a history of disciplinary issues.
As a result of a nine page report written by Lieutenant Roane in his supervisory capacity, there is a full blown investigation of the happenings in the Sandusky Fire Department. Roane has broken the so-called “code of silence” as he became a “whistle blower” in this situation. But in bizarro world, Sandusky, Ohio, Roane is the bad guy.
We commend Roane for his courage is speaking out. We believe it is within the purview of his
job description as a firefighter supervisor to protect his crew. Apparently his decision was based on past history. He believed there was a perceived threat from this Schoen person. Clearly Schoen’s behavior was cumulative. It was bound to happen. Roane reacted responsibly. He’s no mental health professional. How was he to know Schoen would not act on the alleged threats made. He did what is expected of persons in positions of responsibility. By the way we call the threat alleged, but Roane is the only firefighter who submitted to and passed a lie detector examination. There are others who were present who say the incident did not take place. They refused veracity testing.
If what they say is true then Roane missed his calling. he should be writing best selling novels. Of course it is Sandusky, Ohio. Population about 27,000 twisted folk.
But in Sandusky, Ohio Roane is the bad guy for reporting the alleged incident
