Is John McAfee Crazy… Like a Fox ?
You may be familiar with the name John McAfee. You may recall him as the guy who developed the anti-virus program for computers before any digital viruses had been created to cause digital infection. That was in 1987. Twenty-six years ago John McAfee founded McAfee Associates, a computer anti-virus company. He is said to be the first to distribute anti-virus software using what has come to be known as the ” shareware” business model. Today McAfee Associates, acquired by Intel in 2010 for $7.68 billion is a wholly owned subsidiary of Intel.
The name John McAfee may also be familiar because in recent months he’s received news coverage due to his status as a “person of interest” to law enforcement organizations such as the Gang Suppression Unit, (GSU), a special unit of the Belize Police Department organized in April 2010, in response to the rising crime rate in Belize which was believed by Belize Prime Minister Dean Barrow to have reached crisis proportions;
Nearly a year ago in April 2012 John McAfee’s home in Belize was raided by the GSU on suspicion of unlicensed drug manufacturing and possession of an unlicensed weapon. He was arrested and released with no charges filed against him. (Beginning in February 2010, McAfee started a new venture in the field of bacterial quorum sensing. His company QuorumEx is headquartered in Belize and is working towards producing commercial all natural antibiotics based on anti-quorum sensing technology. There’s a lab, and according to police officials inside there are a bunch of unidentified substances manufactured there. More about this and McAfee’s other forays into the world of illegal substances, in another post.)
Later during the same year, in November, one of McAfee’s neighbors, an American ex patriot, was found dead of a gunshot wound at his home. No one has yet been formally charged, however the police in Belize sought John McAfee for routine questioning concerning the murder during their investigation.
McAfee refused to comply with police requests to be questioned regarding the matter. He began to earnestly and deliberately evade the authorities. And thus began John McAfee’s adventure as a fugitive.
Some say he’s diabolical…others describe him as a total nut job…a kind of mad scientist on the nutty professor level. Watch the video made earlier this year…see what you think…
Is John McAfee a person who suffers delusional (paranoid) disorder or is he another creative American original capitalist marketing genius?
