NYPD Commissioner Kelly: NEW Policy – Shoes, Socks, Sleeping Bags, Blankets, Coats for Homeless!
“Character is doing the right thing when nobody’s looking.
There are too many people who think that the only thing that’s right is to get by, and the only thing that’s wrong is to get caught.” ~ J.C. Watts, Jr., former Republican congressional representative from Oklahoma’s 4th congressional district in south-central Oklahoma and Baptist minister.
The following video shows the generous actions of one NYPD officer; it is the exception that proves the rule.
We’ve been told by unnamed sources close to beleaguered New York City Police Commissioner Ray Kelly he will be issuing a news release announcing a new, improved policy to be implemented immediately, rendering the previous video unexceptional:
All homeless persons found by members of the world’s largest urban police force will be provided, and forced to accept, appropriate covering,(including sleeping bags rated to minus 25 below freezing). The policy is specifically designed for those persons living on the street when the temperatures fall below 50 degrees during the the first day of October through May 1st of the following year.
No longer will we have to listen to long boring press conferences about an officer who bought a homeless person some boots, since this will become standard practice occurring so regularly every day, as to be unexceptional.
All clothing is being purchased and provided by Mayor Bloomberg from his own personal piggy bank. It’s a very big piggy bank…and as Mayor Bloomberg is very rich he can afford to dole out funds to clothe all those who live on the streets in his city. We’ve been advised, by sources unauthorized to speak on behalf of the mayor personally or the Bloomberg administration, Mayor Michael Bloomberg will be dressing as Santa; he’ll be driving around in his limousine giving out clothes, blankets, sleeping bags, shoes and socks to the homeless.
This move will also be a big help to the retail clothing outlets in Manhattan, many of whom have experienced a decline in sales; some have been near broke since all the homeless started going about without clothes or shoes.
As they say, and it’s a cliche we seldom use, “It’s a win-win, one hand washes the other, hand and glove caper for everyone!” Especially since, and we are sure we are speaking for most of us, we am tired of seeing dirty feet, and filthy near naked people walking around the city. We sincerely mean it when we say these are not the people we ever dreamed of or wished to see naked. Everything is not beautiful.
We commend Mayor Bloomberg and Commissioner Kelly for their generosity. May we suggest a pillow for every doorway.
Volunteer personnel from local churches, shelters and social organizations will provide sandwiches and soup as needed or as requested by law enforcement officers for the needy. Let the police buy their own donuts.
Everyday tens of thousands of homeless people in the major urban centers of the United States go without proper food, clothing, and, of course, shelter.
Some of them even go without shoes. Some of them even go without socks. Some of them go without pillows.
Some of the hungry eat air sandwiches. Some of the homeless don’t have a home.
Last August,2012, we reported, the fact in the United States the number of vacant homes is greater than the number of homeless people. Maybe they should get married. If the gay can marry each other, why can’t the homeless marry a home? We support the IDHA: In Defense of Homes Act.
That was another video from a security camera, no audio, of an NYPD law enforcement member at work in New York City.
You win some, you lose some.
Just one month before the current spotlighted act of kindness, prior to the media and social networks sensation Patrolman Lawrence DePrimo has become; the policeman in the second video brutally attacks a homeless man whom he erroneously believes deserves the butt-kicking of his life at the hands of one “who can not be resisted”.
As we praise the actions of New York City patrolman, Lawrence DePrimo we’re wondering how long Mr. DePrima has been on the force? We wonder how many times in the past he’s seen barefooted homeless guys on the streets of Manhattan? Did he stop to buy shoes for them, too?
“…military-style training to domestic law enforcement has real consequences. When police officers are dressed like soldiers, armed like soldiers, and trained like soldiers, it’s not surprising that they are beginning to act like soldiers. And remember: a soldier’s main objective is to kill the enemy.” ~ Arthur Rizer and Joseph Hartman, law enforcement experts.
For every act of free boots recorded, their have been dozens of videos of police brutality. Maybe the police officer was just trying to give away a free pair of boots and the homeless person resisted.
Reminds a few of us of the old Timex commercials, updated to modern times: Imagine, homeless person, sitting in doorway, with his brand new pillow, his brand new boots; and on his arm is a brand new shiny watch. Along comes Officer Patrolman who begins beating the homeless person. You see the watch and the man’s head get beaten over and over again. When the commercial is done the homeless person is lying there dead, the policeman bends over and picks up his arm to display the smashed watch, “Takes a licking and keeps on ticking!” Seems about right.
