Love and Charity in Racine, Wisconsin Needs Your Help

The Love and Charity Homeless Shelter and Mission on Douglas Avenue in Racine, Wisconsin needs your help.

This organization was founded by Mrs. Louise Hunter, who herself, along with her children faced eviction in the late 1960s. In the case of Mrs. Hunter and her family, a kind and generous stranger gave them an eighteen-room house for just one dollar! It was at this point Mrs. Hunter dedicated her life to doing God's work by helping others in similar situations.

And so she's been feeding the hungry, clothing and sheltering those who have not in the Racine, Wisconsin area for over 40 years. She's been doing this all on a widow's pension, and donations from kind people like you, with no federal assistance.

In addition to feeding homeless families and providing shelter, Mrs. Hunter and the staff provide after-school computer training for children from ages 4 through 17, along with help with homework assignments.

The charity has continued since the 60's for more than 40 years to help people although it also continues to have struggles. Currently, the charity has an enormous gas bill of more than $40,000, that if not paid, will lead to discontinued service early next spring. Mrs. Hunter says many donations are received during the holiday season, but she desperately needs financial support all throughout the year.

You can help Love and Charity Homeless Shelter and Mission by donating food, money or volunteering your time to fight homelessness and addiction.

The Shelter receives some food donations from Tyson Foods, and Jimmy Dean Foods, but more grocery and food donations are needed. Because Mrs. Hunter, affectionately known as, Mother Hunter, and her staff provide not only food and shelter, but also training for children and adults the organzation has a special wish list that includes, but is not limited to:

In the United States many of us are just one pay check away from being homeless. Your generous donation will help some needy person or family. Perhaps one of those persons helped will turn out to be a man like Chris Gardner the homeless person become millionaire portrayed in the movie "The Pursuit of Happyness" starring Will Smith. Your contribution is very important and whether or not the receiver becomes a millionaire or not, your contribution will help to feed a child, restore an adult to confidence and productivity, which is far more important. There are many more ordinary people than millionaires, and it is the ordinary people who need help. Give to the Love and Charity Homeless Shelter and Mission . We are sure you will feel good about helping someone this holiday season and all throughout the year.
